1,000 disabled to undergo
vocational training
KABUL (PAN): As many as 1,000 disabled people, including women, would
be provided with vocational training in four provinces of Afghanistan, an
official said on Sunday.
The training will be held in Nangarhar, Herat and Kandahar provinces,
Minister of Labour, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disables Amina Afzali told
reporters after signing a project agreement with two Afghan companies.
The project, to be completed in eight months, envisages training in
tailoring, carpet-weaving, growing vegetables, poultry farming, embroidery,
food processing, healthcare and beauty parlour.
She said the project would be implemented at a cost of 21 million afghanis
($433,258), with each province getting seven million afghanis for training
330 disabled people.
Annually, the ministry will provide job opportunities or 15,000 eligible
special people, who undergo similar trainings.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Water and Energy officials said two water
management projects, which would irrigate about 15,000 hectares of
farmland, would be implemented in the northern provinces of Balkh and
Jawzjan.
The projects included improvement of seven canals and construction of
new bridges in nine districts of the two provinces, said the acting water
and energy minister, Mohammad Ismail Khan, after signing an agreement
with a Tajik company known as LLC Sivar.
He said the projects, which would be implemented in two years at a cost
of $7.3, would benefit 73,000 families in 279 villages and provide job
opportunities to 33,000 people.
