    Officials: Kabul Soon To
    Have Metro Bus System

Last week, Tolo News reported that according to Kabul Municipality officials,
Kabul will soon have a new Metro bus system. This new Metro bus system is
being funded with the financial assistance of the World Bank. This system is
expected to help with the many traffic issues that Afghans in Kabul currently
face, such as traffic jams and high taxi fares. This new system is scheduled
to begin operating by next year, pending feasibility studies. According to the
Municipality officials, the feasibility stage of this Metro bus project is being
implemented with help from Turkey. The World Bank will cover all the
expenses that will be necessary to conduct these studies. Deputy Mayor of
City Services, Khosman Olumi, said, “I believe that if the feasibility study of
the project is finished the practical work will be started immediately after
    receiving the funds.”

Finally! Kabul is starting to use their brains now!!!

Like the article mentioned, it will decrease the amount of vehicles and most importantly, be a helpful factor towards decreasing the pollution issue.

Haris, a major thanks for posting this, definitely made my week.

This will not work unless Kabul specifically, demarks, bus, bicycle and taxi lanes. Kabul residents, who have to commute short distances might be able to use bicycles.

You can also put small 50cc engines on bicycles.

The populaton of Kabul is over 4 million. The traffic problem is worse there than any other city. People have been increasingly migrating there as this war goes on. Especially since the fighting has grown more fierce in the nearby provinces.

I'm just happy atleast something is being done at all for Afghans.

This has alot of benefits. Yeah i'd also like to see other places getting upgraded too but they have to start somewhere and I guess Kabul just is the easiest place to start since it's the capital of a heavily centralised country. Everything goes on there since that's the only place the Karzai government has any practical power.

Maybe if we didn't have a war and we actually had a decent government, we could see the whole country being developed but until then, i'm just happy something is being done wherever it is.

Then in that case, Kabul infrastructure would have to be completely worked on.

I understand wrora, I wish to see Kandahar and other major provinces (actually all) to flourish, but we all have to see that Kabul has major issues that affects the entire country, from its environmental issue, Pashto status, to its corrupt government, its gotta start somewhere.

4 million? my guess it would be slightly more, no? Kabul has increased in the work force and they are admitting more students in the universities, i believe Kabul has the most universities compared to the other cities, more and more people move to Kabul for work and education.

                            ^ Wiki says 3,895,000 as of 2011.

I was also suprised. I assume it's abit more than that.
