New development plan for Khost in the works

by Mali Khan Yaqubi on 19 January, 2011 - 20:36 KHOST CITY (PAN): Afghan businessmen wanted to invest billions of dollars in their country if the government provided them with the required facilities, a presidential advisor said on Wednesday.
Advisor on construction affairs, Yousaf Pakhtun, is part of a 10-member delegation, which is visiting Khost City to evolve a fresh plan for urban development.
Pakhtun acknowledged the government had been unable to provide civic amenities due to a lack of professionals, insecurity and widespread land-grab.
A comprehensive urban development plan, which had been evolved for Khost City five years ago, could not be implemented, he said. "With some changes, we want to enforce that plan."
The strategy would take two months to complete and steps would be taken to enforce it, he said, seeking support from civil society organisations for their efforts at implementing the plan.
It is said one of the hurdles to the development of Khost City is the defence ministry's ownership of vast swathes of land, which are yet to be handed over to the municipality.
But the advisor said the ministries of urban development and defence had reached an agreement on transferring to the municipality parts of land that hampered urban development.
Urban Development Minister Hussain Hesari said a new 30-year plan would meet every requirement of Khost residents. He identified high-rise buildings in residential areas as one of the factors disrupting development activity.
Governor Jabbar Naeemi, who was also present at the press conference, called on the delegation to focus on widening roads and overhauling drainage and power supply systems in the provincial capital.

There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

If it's one province that has everything going good for them, then it has to be Herat. Nearly every Afghan here is investing in Herat.
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

herat is a great place for investment as it is peaceful. the problem is iranian involvement and the market monopoly they are trying to uphold. the last few years there was a huge problem in herat with robbers and mafia like organizations who have tried to extort local traders. there were a lot of kidnappings by local gangs of local businessmen, but luckily the govt started sending troops and police there and the situation is much better. inshallah all our cities will see prosperity.

most cities in afghanistan are ripe for investment, mazar, kabul, jalalabad, and even khost.

it all depends on peace and security. unfortunately places like kandahar and lashkargah are stagnant in growth because of the situations there.

As long as Afghanistan is not free of foreign elements, there is no point in going around giving people false hope of "reconstruction".

It is just the foreign troops who spread these false stories to make ignorant people believe that they are here to help the reconstruction.

SOme Afghans who have joined in with the whole "reconstruction" propaganda are probably envolved with the Americans. This is why they keep spreading these lies.

when there is better infrastructure, it is a reality regardless of the kuffar occupation.

Better infrastructure is only built to facilitate the needs of the invading forces.

They build roads so they can move their troops.

Similarly, some dumb people were very happy when the British started building railroads in India and Pakistan thinking the tracks are built to serve the rural population. But as we have seen, those tracks were made to make the export of goods and the deployment of troops speedier.

yeah because paved roads and electricity don't benefit the locals, right?

No, they dont. Because they do not exist. How many villages have you visited where "they have paved roads and provided electricity" ???

Please mention at least 3 different locations.

i have been to kabul, ghazni, and jalalabad 3 years ago. the roads(highway, and city) were new, and the electricity was better than it was in previous years according to the locals i talked to and my family who live there.

Did they have electricity in Rural Ghazni and Jalal Abad?

I am from outskirts of Kabul, and we have no electricity.

Are you sure you didn't just take a trip from city to city?

most villages in rural areas have generators. i dont know what ur point is here. there is electricity in places where there wasnt before as told to me by locals and family. i am not just talking about in the 90s or 80s, i am talking about in the so called glory days of zahir shah. if you are from the outskirts of kabul with no electricity, how are u online?

i have to agree with shamlawar here

you have seen those roads and im sure you have seen how the invading forces drive around 10km an hour on those roads causing rush hour.
and if you get too close or want to drive passed them than you are probably a dead man.so if you are sick ,pregnant, dying etc you should just waite in the traffic jam for hours.
and as for electricity,is this a joke?i was in jalalabad and electricity is mostly non existance.
but i do understand your position, you think like those people i spoke to in jalalabad one of them said that "karzai brought us freedom" but than american convoy passed through the busy marketplace and all of the cellphones wetn dead and they were aiming at all the people.i told him if that was the freedom he was talking about. but than his mouth went shy.
i asked another guy why he was happy for Sherzai he told me "Sherzai doesnt steal 100% but 80% but the one before him was stealing 100%"

so seeing the desperation of Afghans, they will be happy for anything.
next thing will be they will happy that there are such nice foreign military bases and they got this nice military Airport Bagram which infact is not Afghan.

                          I am not physically there.

And the reason why you believe the reconstruction is working is because you probably belong to those Afghan Mellati families who have created their own "NGO".

i am not defending america, nor the occupation. it is unjust and a poison to the afghan nation. but on the same note, people who deny any good that has happened regardless of the occupation like paved roads and infrastructure that has come from national revenue, are idiots. these are people who are so blind in their zeal that when they see someone who has a business in afghanistan who is making a living they say o **** its because of the occupation and its helping foreigners. its fu kin stupid.

when in the late 90s when the taliban invited back afghan refugees to the country and some came back and made a living because of peace and stability, i wouldnt say oh this is because the pakis want a peaceful afghanistan to transport goods to central asia. i would say good ****, its helping people so regardless of the political situation it is what it is, and if it helps people then f uck it. its the same with today, of course america and nato is poison but to deny that there is some good happening in afghanistan today is ridiculous.

i respect your emotions and i will be first to cheer if there was actually something good happening in Afghanistan.if you think a couple of buildings and roads will help afghans than you are either naive or dont know the groun realities.
the roads are made to expand the occuaption across the country and get the much needed resources to the invaders bases.
and what are trying to say here that even though people are dying still there is progress happening?
most Afghans cant afford to use those roads or buy in those kabul Malls or other fancy buildings we are talking about.
and dont forget the money coming for these construction projects come from the invading forces.so you are saying that you are agianst the invasion yet happy when they build you a building?
if some rich Afghans invest and build these buildings than its different and it means siomething but of foreign invaders are paying for it than it is payment for their invaion of hte country.
btw the money paid by Foreign invaders is earned fromt he invaion itself.
