  • Educate me: Why is cricket fun?

I never played cricket and dont even know the rules.

I did play baseball and I like it allot.

I believe cricket is extremely boring and a waste of precious time.

I believe there is no fun in playing cricket. Those who like it lack imagination.

    Am I wrong?

Cricket is, as you say, rather dull.

It lacks fire and before they came up with 20-20 could meander on for days with only about 15 people in the stadiums. It's very stiff upper lip. I've been to two official live county matches and it was even drier than on TV. International fared a little better. The 'excitement' in the game only ever existed because India and Pakistan were ready to launch nuclear weapons if they lost to the other side.

That said, if you want adrenalin, then the rough version of the game, played on hard rocky ground and with bare feet and with a crate as a wicket, is the best. Rules don't apply and this is the version poor Pashtun kids play.

I think the reason why I cant develop any interest in cricket is because I grew up playing basketball. Compared to basketball, cricket is almost static.

Cricket is very interesting game, you have not played it thats why you don't know what it is. I don't know football thats why I don't find anything interesting in football but the world is after football because they know it.
Cricket is more technical, weather plays a vital role, the pitch, the ground, the grass, light, there are lots of things in cricket that are very very important and plays a vital role in the game, its not so simple and so very interesting.

Cricket is never static my dear... you start playing it for a week, try to understand the rules and then you will come to know that it always keeps you moving physically and mentally. Its all culculation.

I used to play this version all the time when I was a kid. Its very fun. Its played with a pitcher or without one where you can throw the ball in the air and hit it with a stick or a piece of wood. Once the ball is hit, the opponent team members have to shoot you with the ball in order to get their chance at bat.
The cricket with rules is very boring.

Every sport has its good and negative aspects. We are all unique with different tastes in sports, music, women etc. Just because chess is slow doesn't make it boring, just because ice hockey is fast doesn't make it interesting.

Personally I like sports where the least amount of technology is used, hence I like football, cricket etc. One thing I don't like about cricket is that it is expensive to play. Professional level bats can cost upto $1000 and then there is the cost of helmets, pads etc.

One thing i like about cricket is that even if you are not extremely fit, you can still play at a professional level such as Inzimam of Pakistan. Cricket is interesting because it combines atheleticism, strategy, skill, etc. It is a very technical sport especially the batting. You can't simply rely on power to hit the ball, first you have to get inline of the ball, be in a good position with good balance and technique to put the ball away. It is more about these factors and timing which makes a good batsman. Sure you cwn swing wildly but you won't last long becuase sooner or later your weaknesses will be exposed by the bowler.

There are many other things as well such as what makes a good bowler etc but can't be bothered typing with the phone now.

cricket to me was more fun back in the 90's, especially with the India/Pakistan battles and all the famous cricket players from all the world. Now days I am not following the game as I use too, especially with all the 20/20 games, which I personally dislike. I only watch important games now

True, but for fast bowling you have to be fit. Many of the Caribbean track and field players played cricket first

The only good thing about cricket is batting.

I actually used to hate cricket and just got into it. I mean, I used to play a lot as youngster. I like cricket because it is a human game. The way you throw the ball and hit it, all depends upons the person. The rules are not rigid.

I think you should play before laying down the final verdict. It's a fun game and you might actually like it.
