Yes, those are bad examples to follow in my opinion. I know the types very well. You have leading Iraqis there also, although they seem to prefer London like most other Arabs due to language. Most of the Muslims in France are Berbers from Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia and of course the Western Africans from the former French colonies from my understanding. And then you have a few Turks and Arabs from the Middle East (mainly only Syrians and Lebanese because they are a former colony)

But I konw that USA is still the preferred option for studies abroad among Saudis, Kuwaitis and Emiratis.

For example, I got a leaflet in the post about my local Teco's (Wallmart) Ramadan offers and it was all chapatis and Indian samosas and Basmati rice and onion bhajjis and Rubicon mango juice etc (all associated with Pakistani/South Asian culture) that were being discounted. I was like 'eh..'

Many of the young Muslims in London and I guess the UK have a chance of becoming vey extremist, more so than anywhere else in the west I think. That isn't helped with the English Defence League who help to provoke young Muslims into extremising themselves and the likes of Anjem Choudry who flame the sentiments. It should be noted though that this is less profound in London since the EDL and the extremists have far less influence than in other areas of the country, particularly in the north.

I don't think London is like Luton or Bradford where the Muslim communities are self-segregated and most of the women you see are burka-clad. London is very multicultural so you may see people in burkas or hijabs or nothing on their heads. The Muslim communities are seperated within themselves though (i.e. Afghan mosques for mainly Afghans etc). My old local mosque in Sothall would always do the khutbah in Urdu which I found really really annoying because I didn't understand a word. In Southall, the Muslims live with other peoples and religions (Sikhs, Hindus, Christians) so they are more intergrated than say Bradford. Hence you see more diversity. It's the same case with the rest of London.
      Informative post, brother.

Apart from Edgeware Road is there any area where Arabs are visible? Or are they even the majority/visible in Edgeware Road? I imagine that most Muslims by far are from Pakistan, Bangladesh and India in London which is a pretty different culture to our own from what I know and have experienced. And is there any particular Arab group that is dominant? I know that Iraqis and Saudis are numerous which is great but what about other groups? I heard Yemenis as well and they usually have a great understanding with Iraqis and that's what I hear from Arabs living in London. And then I imagine Egyptians having a fairly big presence. Moroccans, Algerians and Tunisians are mostly Berbers (those who emigrate) and they tend to be in France from what I see. And then there is not much left of the Arab world apart from Northern Sudan (which I imagine also are present in London to an extent when being a former colony) and Qatar, Bahrain, UAE, Oman, Jordan and Palestine which all have small populations. Syrians and Lebanese are more found in France.

      Am I correct?

I cannot speak for all of London since as Hakim said, it is a big city and I spent most of my life in West London - rarely travel East, North or South.

I think most Arabs live in West London. I do not know the specific areas but there are sizeable communities in Ealing, Alperton, Wembley, Edgeware, Sheperds Bush & Kensington (all West London).

Yeah most are Iraqis & Lebanese I think. Then there are Palestinians, Egyptians, Saudis, Sudanese, Omanis & Yemenis. There are not so much others like Algerian or Tunisian etc as they live mostly in France as you said. I think there are some Morrocans too though.

Many Lebanese came during the civil war there in the 70s, the Saudis mainly came in the 90s and 2000s and the Iraqis & Palestinians (though not so much the Palestinians, though they are smaller in number) have mostly come very recently as refugees.

Saudis are not so much dominant in number but rather in influence (in the upper class markets usually).

There are very few Gulf Arabs, the ones who are here (i.e. Qataris etc) are like the Saudis with the top spots in the housing/hotel markets or are students at universities.

I don't really know the situation of Arabs among themselves though I don't expect them to be united as one single entity to a great degree. My Lebanese friend said our Algerian friend speaks a funny and not very true dialect of Arabic, but I dunno. The Lebanese generally keep to themselves. I'm sure each of the Arab peoples do the same too in London.

Apparently most Afghans also live in West London, but I find it hard to image any hood in London containing more Afghans than Croydon.

My old college even had human rights quotations in many langauges (Urdu, Arabic, Persian, Kurdish, Tamil, Pashto and Hindi) on the steps of each floor to try and convince all the freshies to behave in a civilized order, like at the airport.

Yeah, Afghans are mainly in West, i'm sure of that.
Acton, Hayes, Southall, Harrow, Brent (NW) etc are all Afghan strongholds and the Afghans are slowly invading the surrounding areas too.

                              Another informative post, brother.

Yes, generalization is not good and it's hard to give an definite answer in a city like London or any other place for that matter.

But I am not surprised to hear that Iraqis form a large disapora. They are almost everywhere.

I do know that Iraqis, Saudis and Yemenis due to close culture (compared to other Arabs) are generally at very good terms (apart from those secterian ones from all 3 sides) and that's only a good thing. Kuwaitis could also be included here as well as Emiratis and Bahranis but they are very small in numbers.

Personally I don't know many Omanis, those I know are originally Baloch like a lot of Omanis today.

Surprisingly I don't know many Lebanese also, since there are only 4 million of them and they are not really present in other Arab countries. Maybe that differs in Europe though.

Lebanese also tend to be the most Western ones together with the North Africans while Saudis, Iraqis and Yemenis are more traditional and conservative for better or worse. And here I am only talking about Arabs and not other peoples living in those 3 countries.

But as some other brother mentioned in this thread, many of them are Iraqi Kurds which are like Pashtuns and Hazaras/Tajiks. Similarities but essentially a different people although intermarriages have taken place.

Lately I am not surprised by the Saudis having influential positions/money when being half Saudi (Hejazi) and having lived there most of my life.

But actually Kuwaitis and Qataris are even richer but there are much fewer of them. Kuwaitis are very close to Iraqis also. Essentially same people especially compared to Southern Iraqis. But they tend to be pretty arrogant, atleast that's their reputation among us Arabs. But they are good people overall.

Anyway it's getting late so I better leave.

                              • I think the Pashtuns in London are mainly Kabulis, Kandarharis, Laghmanis & Wardags (main ones being Kandarharis and Wardags).

The Pukhtunkhwa Pashtuns generally tend to live in the more traditionally industrial cities in the North like Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Bradford etc.
