  • Let's Talk about Dating

So, I read this interesting article today and I think it could work. After all its a better alternative to the things that are offered today. Let me know what you guys think! =)

"Do not lose hope in adversity and complain that God singled you out for punishment, remitting others guilty of worse sins. Your present state could very well be His intent to elevate your spiritual station. Or He could just be testing your faith. Everyday that you persevere, you grow closer to perfection. Thus, your present despair may be the beginning of an infinite blessing". - Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani.

Haha. I didn't get to the part about the comments. I only read the article and that was long enough. But I think she's soo right. It would be soo much easier for things to work out that way. When courting, most people know if it'll work out or not-- so its not like you'll be in that "process" for years on end. It's cute to have the family and everyone involved when you're serious about someone. =)

It really depends on who you ask, some people argue that speaking to a non-mohram man is wrong, which pretty much invalidates the entire idea of dating. Some say it's okay, as long as things don't get touchy. Is it really time to leave our Kandahari style though? I think synthesizing happiness has worked for us, why reinvent the wheel?

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

That is wrong. It has to be about your free will. I am against forced marriages, and I am aware that it's a pretty lucrative industry for many. If your parents want you to marry someone, Islam has given you rights, use them to your benefits.

              Roshina,

In your opinion, is meeting up with a potential life partner permitted in Islam? In short, is going for a 'test-drive'[checking them out] allowed in Islam? What are your views? Wouldn't being around a non-mahram invalidate the entire concept of dating?

Some food for thought. I patiently await for your response.

I wonder how comfortable that might feel talking for the first time to their life partner in front of someone else.

That someone else doesn't have to be a stranger. Imagine it being your sister or your cousin or even your mother.

I think there are Islamic and traditional ways of approaching this in a way whre honor is protected at all costs.

At my sister's school, there was a muslim guy who had eyes on a muslim girl. He talked and walked. The girl was religious, and did not display the same interest or attitude towards this interaction. The guy told everyone that she is a **** in anger.

The msa had to get involved because the girl felt insulted.

Do you tell her that before the date?
