Waziristan. Hard Homecoming. Pakistan’s military instills patriotism in returning refugees - YouTube
Don’t know if this was shared here before, but this is an interesting documentary showing the current state of Waziristan. Keep in mind that RT is a propaganda channel, and Russia and Pakistan currently have pretty good relations. But even then, this documentary still manages to paint the Punjabi army in a bad light.
Highlights include:
- A look at the destruction and massive military presence still in Waziristan and the surrounding areas. Waziristan is basically an open air prison right now.
- A few “re-education centers,” i.e. brainwashing centers designed to integrate Waziristanis into the Punjabi mainstream.
- Orphanages full of kids that have parents. The host is told that the kids’ mothers willingly gave them up due to poverty, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Paki military was taking them by force. Considering the poverty was largely caused by Pakistan’s indiscriminate slaughter in Waziristan creating thousands of widows and orphans, you could blame the terrorist Pakistani army either way. But at least they’re being taught the Paki national anthem!
- Even in an ostensibly pro-Pakistan documentary, the people being interviewed are generally on edge and one old guy doesn’t mince words and openly says his village was destroyed by the Pakis despite not housing any Taliban
- The host tries to talk to a lady behind a screen. The translator speaks broken Pashto, and when the lady says she doesn’t know what he’s saying, the translator makes something up about cultural restrictions(?).
- The video ends the only way a documentary with the Paki military should, with a soldier flailing around like a homosexual donkey to some attan music. I highly recommend everyone watches the last few minutes as this is hilarious. Even the host seems frustrated at the fact that the Paki army has to interject themselves into every aspect of the locals’ lives.
All in all this was pretty sad to watch. It’s clear that the reality is a lot worse than what was shown. My only hope from this is Inshallah this occupation bankrupts Pakistan and the country doesn’t make it to 100 years.
