  • Our language and our friends

    Asalam o alaikum everyone
First of All happy ramadhan to each and everyone of you

    Today in masjid
I felt very bad.. U know why?
Because Arabs were talking arabic to eachother
Panjabis were speaking their own language
Indians were speaking hindi language (Malayalam and etc)

But our afghans.. They were all speaking english with eachother..
    Da walai?
Everyone was speaking in their own language but only Afghans were speaking in English.. only ppl aged 40 above were talking Dari or pashto..

I was shocked to c this caz i had never noticed this thing before.

What should be the reason behind this?

    How can we stop this?

Is it the new generations' mistake or their parents' mistake for not practicing their own mother language with their kids ?

    Did you ever noticed this?
does it happen in ur area too?
Do you like or dislike it?

Lets talk about this and i hope no one will get offended by this topic.

    Serious replies please

    1. Did you go mosque to pray or observe and analyse languages?

    2. Are you saying Afghans are only ones who can speak English and everyone else is illiterate?

    3. Who cares?

there is a rule in our house. if dad catches us speaking anything else than dari or pakhto at home he will break our necks. it was very annoying in the beginning but i have learned to appreciate it.
it's very simple. you will lose your vocab if you don't practice speaking your native language at home and before you know it you have lost your confidence. i think the best thing to do is refuse to talk with your friends and siblings in english even if they talk to you in english.

I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.

non commercial would cost less if he was in charge himself which he plans on doing. right now it's n herat but soon it will be in qanadahar.

No one goes to masjid to play cricket
Lets say not masjid but in a wedding or in a majlis .. lets talk about the point not about where i went .. stick to the damn topic
        2. Are you saying Afghans are only ones who can speak English and everyone else is illiterate?
No .. I meant Afghans speak english and not speak their own language..
All others were speaking their own languages
        3. Who cares?
An Afghan does.. a person who loves his culture, tradition, language and future of his country and langues does care about these things.. If today they wont speak their language, tomorrow their kids and 2nd generation will be Angraiz not Afghan at all.
We are away from our watan but we shouldnt run away from our culture and identity.. our grandfathers were Afghans and so are we..

Afghans are such a disgrace. The ones who leave Afghanistan loose their sense of identity. To them being Afghan is listening to Farhad Darya and eating Qabuli. No language, customs and tradition. And don't even talk religion.

You should be glad those Afghans go to the mosque.

this is problem. Pashtuns of Afghankhwa in my university i have found, like to speak n listen Dari.....
Pashtuns of Pakistan feel more comfort to speak Urdu....
Modern day Pashtuns are either "Farsi speaking Tajiks" or "Urdu speaking Panjabis" (Bcz they think they r modern age people). Afsos these people assume that their own language (Pashto) is not a langugae of Modern day

^ Thats what i was talking about.
Those who speak english at home and outside with other afghans, may you never see then in kabul airport lol
u know what happens in kabul airport?

He steps out and smells the air.. looks up and makes dua.. then he comes and falls on sajda in the airport on the runway.. kisses the ground and starts acting like a film hero.. rubs the soil on his forhead.. starts walking towards passanger check in que.. You will find him soooooooooooooo in love with afghanistan.. When u start talking to him.. he will be like... Oh i cant speak farsi or pashto.. i am raised in Amrica or Alman lol
(thats the story of this guy Ajmal whom i met in airport.. thought he is an afghan lover but after a week i heard he sold his home in kabul and promised himself that he wil never come to Afghanistan again ) LOL
seems to be he came to sell his home and kissing the soil meant the soil is going to make him rich

Sooooooo lets stick to the topic now

The problem is mostly with the parents.. they are weak to control their kids.
They love to be called dady and mummy instead of Madar jan or mor janai

Learning another language is useful but forgetting ur own language is equal to forgetting ur Nation,ur culture and your identity

So true, I mean it's cool to call yourself 'Pathaan', but not speak the language.

The language you speak and how you speak it does however depend upon your parents.

Salam and Ramadan Mubarak to all brothers and sisters. May God (swt) accept your prayers .

Well angaar brother, i personally prefer no nationalism in it. Masjed ke thol musilmanan yo, nor de farsi, pakhto, english, punjabi ya arab khabare ba nakawo.

ama ade wraze ke dagha problem na za khabara yam, aw dagha problem hamda yaw hal dai che mor aw plar awlad ta rules jorh ke aw leg de orsara sakht we, pa de che haghoi pa warhaki omar ke napohege che daghe sakhti faida tsa dai, ama leka yawe bale khorkai che delta ziker woka, de daghe sakhti pa faida insan wrosta pohege..

I totally agree. Look at the Afghans that represent us on the world stage. Most of them are entertainers, but unfortunately they do represent or carry the word Afghan on their sleeves. Most of them can't speak their mother tongues fluently, be it Pakhto or Dari. I recently watched an interview, a few days before Ramadhan and I was literally screaming at the screen at how degraded, embarassed and small the interviewer made the Afghans look, as a people. I should share it sometime.

Angaar, superb topic I must say.

to tell u some people feel knowing English and talking in English makes them sound literate, advanced, modern, western and the like......not realizing that other languages should be known for convenience in living and not making them a part of our daily living....

i know people who feel talking in their mother tongues sounds so dull and so illiterate...i dont know what.....not realizing the importance of keeping out culture and language alive.....

i read in the Linguistic department in Bombay University taht by the end of the century more than 9,000 languages will be extinct ...there would be no speakers and learners of these languages.....

i think even if a pakhtun/Afghan who knows pashtu well....speak to them in pashtu...even if he/she talks in english still talk in pashtu....after sometime he/she will start speaking in pashtu with u.....

Nokia Aphridy and Yousufzai Pakhtun's strategy to promote pashtu...no matter howmuch ever u talk to them inenglish,,,theyreply in pashtu......great......good stategy which should be adopted by allll...
