• Why does Bacha Bazi happen in the first place?

I was talking with an Afghan friends and why does this still occur?

[I]Bacha bāzī is a slang term in Afghanistan for a wide variety of activities that involve child sexual abuse and pederasty. The perpetrator is commonly called bacha Baz (meaning "pedophile" in Persian). It may include to some extent child pornography, sexual slavery, and child prostitution in which prepubescent and adolescent boys are sold to wealthy or powerful men for entertainment and sexual activities.[1] Bacha bazi has existed throughout history,[2] and is currently reported in various parts of Afghanistan

For the same reason that sexual abuse happens in other places. It's just that any human society will naturally have some vices happening underground.

Because in Afghan literature love for boys is prevalent. Because Persian poets and Mystics wrote about it. Because people read poems where young men are described in a homo erotic fashion. Because society is extremely strict like a prison for genders. Because normal healthy sexual relationships are impossible because of societal material standards and demands. Because people are forced to marry women they have never met. Because sexuality is not discussed and educated. Because men who have sex with boys are not seen as sinners or criminals. But boys who are raped and held as sex slaves are looked down upon by the society.

All of these factors are causes for bacha Bazi and reasons why it still exists.

If any of that is true, then your basically saying all Afghans are bacha baaz? Since we all have same cultural upbringing...

....for someone who is extremely Arabo-Islamist, you sure like to take on Western narrative of this culture....

Bacha bazi exist because Afghanistan, like any other culture, has homosexual and pediphile people roaming around....

In an uber alpha Macho male culture like Afghanistan, homosexuality is very taboo, hence why the homosexual gather and make a man or boy dress as a woman in order for these homosexuals tonnot be labelled as homosexual.....

Bacha baaz = homosexual....simple as that...

This Shamlawar Moron speaks as if this happens because of gender segragtion or that gender segration leads to homosexuality...

Not all people in Prison turn gay, only a minority inmates rape weak inmates for establishing Power...

dude, the problem is we have Big gay taboo in Afghanistan... The gays want to **** other men/boys, not women...

Lots lf these bacha baaza are in fact married to women, but sexually they are attracted to the same gender as themselves...they could **** their wives instead of ****ing men or Little Boys, clearly they are homosexual and IT has nothing to do with the genders being segregated...

bacha baazi exists because Afghanistan officially Dont have any gay people...bacha bazi is the medium in which gays in Afghanistan can be gay without being labelled gay...

Gayness is disgusting and shameful, but unfortunately IT seems to be part of the natural order of the world...

Salaam,

I have a question that I'd like to ask in general.

Yes Afghans are bachay baaz, and being a Punjabi, it's not like Punjabis are any better. In fact the gandu Karachi likes to say it doesn't exist in India, but it does. Instead of bachay baazi, the Indians call it londay baazi.

Anyways, I wanted to ask that why is having sexual relations with young men so prevalent among agressive or warrior nations. I guess Afghanistan is considered a warrior nation.

But, from what I've observed is that the Romans/Greeks loved ****ing young boys even If they had wives. Same with the Japanese during the Sengoku era. Samurais would be married, and even have concubines, but attested that relations with younger men was much greater. Many of the central Asian Turks during Mughal era's would also have sex with young boys and also sell them in Mughal court for those purposes.

So, my point is that this issue is not exclusively an Afghan phenomenon, but has been prevalent among many civilizations, but mostly ones that were aggressive and wanting to conquer. Why is this?

I would love to hear an explanation from a historian or even amongst theorists as to why this is the case?

Because young boys have a feminine look and so they have often been an object of desire for older males. Early Islamic societies also had this problem and that is why in Islam it is forbidden for an unrelated man to be alone with a boy.

As Traveller pointed towards ,
Islam lays some basic rules for preventing such relationships between older men and young pre-adolescent boys,
This means that having such desires are not as rare as we sometimes make it to be.
On a personal level though , I cannot understand how a man could feel attracted to boys.

Very good observation. Afghans/Pashtuns are definately a warrior society.

Spartans amongst ancient Greeks engaged in this behavior and were encouraged to take lovers of the same sex. Knights in England would engage in such activities with their page boys. Again these were warriors.

It stems from the notion that contact with females would make a man more feminine and soft, and thus was discouraged. However sexual desires needed to be fulfilled and hence these groups used younger boys or members of the same sex.

On the other hand there are a humongous number of indivividuals who do not belong to a so-called "warrior" class who are involved in this. In the U.K it is coming to light more and more. So I guess this sick perversion exists everywhere at some level.

It should also be remebered that although it exists amongst Afghans/Pashtuns it isn't as abundant as people make out. Anyone caught doing this to a boy who even has a small family, or someone to care for them runs the risk of death. period.

Probably the most sensible post I've read from a non Pashtun/Afghan.

I would agree with you, but only to some extent. The only points I would agree with is related to gender segregation and healthy heterosexual relations being strained due to material, financial and social implications on marriages.

However gender segregation is mostly limited to non relatives. Cousins of the opposite sex amongst Pashtuns do talk and mix albeit in a very conservative manner but they are not completely secluded. I have also heard that in deep tribal societies the full burkha isn't that prevalent and women would normally cover up with just a "teekrai". We all have heard songs about women going to the rivers to correct water... I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have been wearing "burkhe", and guys would go and look at them.

Poems describing boys in a homoerotic manner are far far fewer than poems describing beautiful women. There are more love songs and poems about women and love than there are about boys.

A bache baaz is seen as a foul creature amongst Pashtuns and as far as I know it is shunned in Pashtun society and they are not seen as good people.

You don't know?? It's Sufi tradition , deobandi tradition . It's source originally from India. In India they have 3 genders. They have man they have women and they have bacha bazi gender. Bacha bazi is normal in India, mixed with Sufi its spread a lot through Pakistan , then yah. Also because in underdeveloped countries like Afg,pak. Anything goes . No one catchs you. No law.

Terrible thread.

1) Men and women are separated so its easier to someone from the same gender to fulfill your needs

2) Its been happening since ancient times

3) Some boys are more beautiful than some girls

And any combination of the above is why it happens.

The only thing which I feel is "wrong" about bachabazi is the age of the "bachas". They should not be minors, however, unfortunately they are mostly underage. If both parties are over the age of consent, then there are no issues.

Bacha bazi is only made special or highlighted by western media, because Afghanistan is a highly conservative and a very strictly Islamic country. also westerners know very little of the culture there, so they thought it was cultural, even though 99% of people don't participate in it or condone it.

the act of pedophilia happens in every corner of the planet. people just don't expect in Islamic places like Afghanistan, that's why it's made so big headlines.

What he types is true. But that does not mean everybody is doing it. The same as not everybody is a thief in a poor country, even though poverty and lack of jobs are the main cuase for people to become a thief.

There is no such law in the Shari'a which forbids a man to be alone with a boy. This is some rule that was invented by some Fuqaha, but it has no evidence from Quraan and Sunna.

That is because it is abnormal and unnatural for a man to be attracted to a boy, it is even unnatural to be sexually attracted to a pre-pubescent girl.

This is why Hijab/Purda is mandated for adult women, not for boys or girls.

Shari'a is the only thing that matters. What some Islamic jurists invented because of cultural or social problems has nothing to do with Shari'a.
