  • Do you consider people like Reham Khan (Imran Khan's ex wife) Pashtun

She calls herself Pashtun and can speak Pashto.

I would consider ber Pashtun because her father is Pashtun and she can speak Pashto.

I don't consider anyone Pashtun, being Pashtun is a conspiracy created by the Government to make people dance Attan.

Also, as economist Kaushik Basu says: "For a nation to progress it is important for people to spend time on science, mathematics and literature instead of spending time showing that 5,000 years ago their ancestors did science, mathematics and literature."

Whoever can speak Pashto is Pashtun. Even if your parents are Pashtun but you can't speak Pashto then I don't consider you Pashtun.
Peshawari Sikhs are more Pashtun then a Yusafzai settled in Rawalpindi who can't speak Pashto. Those who can't speak Pashto are descendants of Pashtuns but you stop being a Pashtun the second you stop speaking Pashto. Because wihout Pashto you can't have a Pashtun.

So an American that learned Pashto to interrogate and harass Pashtuns while working in the U.S. Military is Pashtun now?

More Pashtun? What's more Pashtun about an infidel coming along with his military to harass Pashtuns? Doesn't share any cultural connection what so ever, doesn't even share religion or values?

Being from an ethnicity or culture means some specific attitude and behavior. I mean if you can't speak Pashto, you don't follow Pashtunwali, you feel much better speaking Farsi, you live among non Pashtuns, you marry to non Pashtuns,.. well with all due respect, BUT YOU ARE NOT A PASHTUN.

I know many Pashtuns like this from Shindand, Torghwondi and Pashtun Zarghoon. They are always bragging about their Pashtuniat but they dont seem to follow Pashtun culture...

I awaken the Ajam by this Persian [language]. "

But he's claiming someone who speaks Pashto, even if they have no other traits resembling being Pashtun, is now a Pashtun

If "Pathans" in India are Pashtun, then Punjabis are Arabs.

The most important thing is how you qualify yourself. If you think you're a Pashtun, then you're a Pashtun. I consider myself a Pashtun, even though my mother isn't one and I speak very broken Pashto (with apparently - as someone I met in Kabul was kind enough to point out - a Russian accent). There will always be people who will think that you're not 'enough' of this or 'enough' of that. People after all enjoy excluding others.

True, identity involves identification…of what we identify as and how others see us as. Some of greatest leader and true Pashtuns like Shaeed Doud khan, Papa Gholam and others didn’t knew Pashtu.
Firdousi and rest of our enemies are trying to use the language card to undermine us. If one claims to be Pashton and have Pashton father then he/she is a Pashton period!
We should unite all our people no matter how they look or what language they speak, only then we can be strong enough to get our due right.

You're a Pashtun, when you yourself consider yourself a Pashtun first. Everything else is rubbish and hold zero ground. It is all about identity; one should identify himself as pashtun, to be considered a Pashtun.

Bloodline, language, culture, none matters. The only thing that matters is that you proudly identify yourself as Pashtun.
Don't quote me or speak to me if you hate Afghanistan, you be ignored.

People with identity crisis will be ignored as well.

You would be surprised that some people don't consider her Pashtun because of the way she dressed or the choices she made in the past so its not all about speaking pashto for some people.
