  • Ahlan, I've a few questions

    Hi there,

I've a few questions I want to ask for some time.

    1. What's that slogan "Loy Afghanistan", like it sounds patriotic and all, I guess it's about the unity of former Afghanistan and the removal of the Durand border. Right?

    2. Where are those places and what's the deal with them; Waziristan, Balochistan & Nuristan.

    3. What's the matter some Afghans have towards Pakistan? Like...haty hate, and with those derrogative terms like ****istan, Porkis etc. I support the idea of Pashtunistan too, incl. Peshawar and the sea, why much hate.

    4. I want to work in Afghanistan. I'm Romanian, but, like I can't, I just love Afghanistan and really want to support the Afghans. Don't tell me the bullocks of "Oh, cute, thanks, but you're a foreigner". You know what, I can assure you I love Afghanistan way way more than other Afghans, like, I appreciate it more.

So that is all for now, I'd love to hear some ideas.
Oh, also, I don't have a diploma or stuff like that, I don't mind working a year there like even a cook assistant or anything simple, just by being there and meet Afghans and learn more about the culture while working sounds just perfect.

    Thanks and good days

Firstly ahlan is probably not the proper greeting you should use. It's an Arabic greeting primarily used by Levantine peoples

    Sha Charrai
    Starray Masey
    Salamoona
    Pa Khair Raghley
    Sha Raghley

    would be more sufficient

    As for all else.

1.) Loy Afghanistan is patriotic, but the context of that patriotism has changed. It's now more ethnically inclusive Often these days it is not really concerned with Sarhadi or Pashtuns from the other side of the border

2.) The Tribal Border areas are not the only areas "included"

3.) It's complicated and the history is very intricate

On one hand, Pashtuns simply look down upon Indic peoples from a cultural level. We have historically been their conquerors so the idea that those we have conquerored getting an upper hand over us is humiliating.

On the other hand, Pakistani policy has been destructive and harmful. the creation of Pakistan is a bastion of the British Imperial Yoke (and truthfully, so is modern Afghanistan or any current nation state). However, regardless Afghans, and Pashtuns in particular bear some legitimate grievances over the antics of Pakistani geopolitics

but this is also mired with the historical cultural attitudes against Indic peoples hence why our discourses often devolve into epithets.

4.) I don't know anything about you, but if your intentions are sincere, work wherever you'd like. I think the idea of "Nationhood" is a toxic concept to begin with, though admittedly I'm still caught within its ruse. It's my "cross to bear". If you want to help others, follow your heart.

Ideas? Crowd-funding campaigns seem to be all the rave. Perhaps you can organize some of those to help benefit Afghan civilians directly, where you can directly deliver and provide medicines, resources, clothes, books, organize projects for shelter

      Thanks for the swift response!

      So...kha charrei to you.

So Afghans and Paks are like..hating each other because the Afghans think they're inferior and the Paks don't like it?

Sounds nice, do you have any ideas what organisations do such things? I won't mind be a deliveryman, sounds simple.

If I recall correctly, you mix Urdu with Pashto, so I don;t think your assessment is credible.

          case in point

No they don't hate just because Afghan consider pako inferior, hate is mostly political.
pakistan inherited the land like KPK, FATA and parts of balochistan which are historically, culturally, linguistically part of Afghanistan from British india and imposed their will on the people forcefully. thanks to the mighty British army which pakistan also inherited and then US helping them in building a powerful airforce gave them an upper hand over Afghanistan.
historically the Afghan of FATA and KPK and Baloch offered a very tough resistance to Birtish. they were never at peace a single day but Punjabi were very slave dog to British and when British leave they transfer their power to their loyal slaves to protect their legacy. it was also a sort of revenge tactics from Afghan who were their worst enemies.
you know bitch keeps a high pace when breading so do Punjabi. they number 10 time more than Afghan and Baloch, thanks to democracy they dominated establishment and bureaucracy and policy making and they imposed their culture and language on other ethnicities.
this was simply not acceptable to Afghan of KPK and FATA and Baloch of Balochistan and they tried to depart their way from pakistan and either to join their mother land or to have a separate homeland, hence the slogan loy Afghanistan, pashtunistan and azad balochistan.

yes I mixed Urdu with Pashto because of the Punjabi cultural hegemony imposed, but still it's my routine language.

it's because most of the member coming here are from the west who don't speak Pashto at homes.

for example a guy A came to office of guy B.
              A: Starray Masey or Salamoona
B: 'taso stari maso', or 'pa kher raghlo'

pa kher raghlo here means 'welcome to my office' substitute for 'har kala rashe'
literally it is used in a sense like " was the journey safe and sound "

Loy Afghanist refers to all Pashtuns areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan
                2. Where are those places and what's the deal with them; Waziristan, Balochistan & Nuristan.
Waziristan and Balochistan are in Pakistan, Nuristan in Afghanistan.

Afghan hate towards PAkistan is only based on pakis support towards terrorist groups. Them being Indic has nothing to do with all of this
                4. I want to work in Afghanistan. I'm Romanian, but, like I can't, I just love Afghanistan and really want to support the Afghans. No offense but this is absolute nonsense, I know for a fact your grammar is wrong, and I say this even though I often make grammar mistakes as well. But my grammar mistakes are more out of negligence than lack of knowledge. But you're using the WRONG conjugation and it means something else.

"Taso stari maso" , Attaching "waw" to the ends of verb roots like "ratl" and "Swal" is First person Plural. Technically "Starray Masey" is not grammatically correct, because 'Ma" is a Negative Imperative, but it's become so accepted that no one cares now.

Pa Khair Raghlo means "We are coming well" , this does not make sense in the context of a greeting I've never heard the way you phrase things used the way you use them here Whether abroad or in the Watan. I sense you either don't speak it regularly, or your dialect is really bizarre and doesn't follow standard Pashto.

friend I am native Pashto speaker and I don't need grammer for Pashto. I even don't know what is negative imperative or what is first person plural.
stari maso or 'starrey masey' both are correct. we use former but the people of Waziristan use latter. dialect difference
also with 'starrey masey' greeting you need to shake the host (or guest) hand too. the other mean it don't forget that other wise you will embrace him.

' pa kher raghlo' is either asking for someone journey or answering for your own journey. in latter form it's not a greeting but a formal answer to greetings but is not practiced either by native speaker. but you can expect it from mostly hindkowan or other who are trying to learn Pashto.

'pa kher raghlo?' should only be used by host not by guest it is widely practised. you can't use it when you meet someone on street by chance either.

when you meet someone on street the most appropriate greetings are
                              stari mashe
                              salam
charange (our dialect) or sanga ye ( peshawari dialect) or changre ( waziri dialect) , or sanga yast ( helmand dialect) means how are you?

'pa kher raghla or raghlam' means I am coming well
'pa kher raghlu' means we are coming well
they are not inline with the Pashto essence hence not used
