  • Why do so many Nuristani people claim light Pashtuns as Nuristani people?

As we all know, pashtuns are beautiful people. Scientists classified Irano-Afghans as Mediterranean or Nordic looking, so we're mostly a more exotic type of Southern European and Nordic people, and there are some other minority phenotypes, too.

I posted a picture of myself on Instagram, and I put a #pashtun on it, and some random person out of nowhere comments on it and says "no, he no pashtun, he nuristani," and all my friends and I were so confused and I commented back saying that I am NOT nuristani, yet the person told me that I should be a proud nuristani blah blah. It got ridiculous and they cussed me out for calling myself Pasthun, which I most certainly AM, so I took down the photo. My friends were so confused, too.

I also notice this trend on the Internet with other pictures of pashtuns. A lot of nuristanis will comment back when people post pictures of pashtuns and say "no, that's actually a nuristani," or pamiri Tajik, when they're NOT. They're pashtuns. I don't get what they're trying to prove. They are one of the smallest minorities in Afghanistan, yet they claim hundreds of pictures of light pasthuns as Nuristanis on the forums, when they're obviously dressed in Pashtun clothing, and obviously pashtun. Like what the hell? I ALWAYS see it. I've even seen someone say that the National Geographic girl was Nuristani and it was a big face palm. And they try to act like they're so different. They try to say they're Alexander's army when they're not, they're Afghans too, and we carry most of the same blood as each other.

Obviously I love Nuristani people, because they are our brothers and we have the same blood, and I love people of all ethnic groups, but seriously, what's the big deal?

Is it possible you have a surname that might be Nuristani and that's why he said those things?

My surname is Sadat, which is not even Afghan in general LOL. My dad's family (like many afghans) didn't have a surname and chose that one. According to Wikipedia though, a lot of Persians have my last name, too and they're related to us Pashtuns, but I don't know why my dad's family chose that name.

Nuristanis are non-mongloid people in Afghanistan. Maybe you don't look son of chenghez khan so Nuristanis may think you are one of them.

Yes, but pasthuns aren't Mongolian either. They are caucasian. They look like a more exotic form of South European of Nordic from what I've seen, and a minority can look jewish, some indid (usually Pakistani pasthuns). Even the darker pashtuns still have the pink undertones you can see if you look deep enough, which is why their tans are more of an orange color than yellow color.

I just don't get why Nuristanis think all light looking Afghams belong to them or Pamiris. There are a hella a lot of light Afghan pashtuns. I don't get why one tried to claim me. I have kinda light pinkish skin, but I have brown hair (which was blonde and kind of ginger red or golden on my early childhood years) and brown eyes.

Are you sure they were Nuristani? I have come across many Punjabis and Tajiks who have tried to claim that good looking Pashtuns on the Internet are actually nuristani or chitrali. Some Punjsbis even tried to claim that "the Afghan Girl" was Tajik not Pashtun.

I have never met a Nuristani who claimed Pashtuns as their own let alone ever met a Nuristani in real life. From what i know, Pashtuns and Nuristani's are two of the most light skinned groups in Afghanistan with the Noori's being slightly more paler but this is due to the fact that they are more isolated and live in higher elevated areas compared to Pashtuns who mostly live in the plains. Besides, Pashtuns have the ability to come out more reddish looking in the hair while Nuristani's are more blonde looking. And the Nuristani's themselves are not even native to Afghanistan and originally came from Chtiral since they are genetically related to Kalash people and are both dardic.

Honestly, i would just ignore them. Some people can't stand the fact that one ethnic group can be paler than another which is why a lot of trolls can't stand the fact that some Gulf Arabs can be as light as Levantines without being mixed or looking brown or black.

Maybe the others weren't, but I always assumed so because it would make sense. But it also makes sense for some Punjabs and Indians to do that, too. Some really seem to dislike Pashtuns but at the same time try to claim us as their people sometimes. Or some claim that they're pashtun. I had an Indian person here in America once say "oh you little afghan pashtun boy molesters don't have anything on us. Indians OWN you, you are Indian, don't you remember the Mauryan Empire?" Of course, I laughed at that statement because we're Iranic, not Indid, and the Mauryan Empire wasn't some kind of invasion, it was a mission on spreading Buddhism to Afghans and Iranians. Nobody really mixed and if anyone did, their families probably might know.

I don't get why certain ethnic groups have to feel more superior.

Some of these Nuristani's don't look like the sterotypical Nooristani's of being white or whatever yet they are still Nuristani.

Google images is prone to cherrypicking the most lightest skinned Nuristani's and relies on the search engine with key words, obviously these nuristani's don't look like their lighter skinned conunter parts.

Probably near Pak borders, otherwise all afghanis are son of chenghez khan look wise and genetically. Thats why you say some Paki pakhtuns look indid because afghanis are mongol who can be light skinned. Mongols are lightest people along with europeans, but afghanis with mongol look are not as light as original Mongols from Mongolia. Typical afghanis look like these, at least 3 out of 4 are mongols here. 4th one probably have hint of mongol in face but genetically mongol anyway.

Good point, don't depend on google images. Search for army photos instead. That nida nuristani seem to be mongol mixed, look like even small minorty of Nuristanis will turn in to mongols soon. Nuristanis are under 1% of Afghanistan population.
