The rest of the article which you quoted can be read hereOriginally posted by Azmal View PostDid “geopolitics” of Afghanistan have changed after Zahir shah? Helmand valley project was started by Zahir Shah from gov income of food sold to British forces in Burma during World War and Taxes on Qaraqol and Afghan rags export to USA.
“In 1946, an American firm, Morrison Knudsen was hired by Afghan government to build diversion dams, enlarge an irrigation canal and construct roads in the valley.A loan was obtained from export-import bank in 1949 after rapid depletion of Afghanistan exchange reserves build up during war on first Marrison-Knudsen contract. Under a second contract, Morrison-Knudsen built the Arghandab and Kajakai Dams on the Arghandab and Helmand rivers, respective, The dams were completed in 1952.” M. Fry.The Afghan Economy: Money, Finance, and the Critical Constraints to Economic development. 1974 Brill, Leiden, Netherlands.
I admire Zahir shah for 3 reason.
1-Unlike Amanullah he knew his subjects, thus instead of imposing modernity he allow for gradual modernization.
2- Zahir Shah’s honorable commitment to allow an independent commission for writing a Democratic constitution, which sadly was hijacked by leftist when they exclude the Mohammedzais from holding office, hence their first illiberal move against our liberties. Many people would have preferred Daud Khan as Prime Minister, than the other options they were left with. Yet after having dismally failed to win more seats in parliament, the Left decided to take over the government by planning a bloody coup even before their alliance to Daud Khan.
3- Not allowing Afghanistan to be ground for dog fight…but thanks to dumb morons in the PDPA and how they began screwing with the country, the Pakistanis could not believe their lucks. While in the past Pakis lackeys were politically marginalized in the country…the brutality of PDPA had effectively obliged them with the manpower to realize their once unattainable dream--- destruction of Afghan State.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opini...qwI_story.html
“It was the urban power elite of Afghanistan trying to confront and reshape their own country. They wanted to modernize the rural, nomadic, pastoral, uneducated population,” said Pettys’s brother, Tamim Ansary, who wrote a book about his Afghan American childhood. “They saw themselves as part of an epic project to overcome the primitive barbarism of Afghan society,” he explained. “The people who wore suits looked down upon those who wore pantaloons and baggy shirts.”Banning the female veil in one of the most conservative parts of the country is hardly gradual modernization, well not unless you compare him to the communists. But tensions were already rising. In 1959, rioters angered by government efforts to abolish the veil burned down a girls’ school in Kandahar, prompting the government to slow its modernization drive. And the lackluster results of the irrigation project became an even larger impediment to the social-engineering campaign. By 1960, the project’s focus shifted to salvaging the basic agricultural effort; coed schools would have to wait.
Geopolitics have been hard on Afghanistan since the late 70s but at least Zahir Shah had the benefit of being the public face of the countries leadership for 40 years. Far more people have fought for leaders who had far less influence and power. His virtual non existence after his coup until Karzai gave him a call in the early 2000's is an embarrassment to his legacy. There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

Well what do you expect when you ask for proof .....have me come to your house with a time machine or a library book?Originally posted by ImAjEw View Postwest is just a part of western society but not west=france

Google Books are Normal Books just Archived on the Google Manframe.
If you want to see desperate, it's you trying to side step the evidence and avoid that there was proof shown. Just because you don't want to admit your error doesn't mean the proof was weak. It means your knowledge was weak.
Just like you say try to lump all Islamists, whether they are Wahhabi or Ikhwan together, Then it's fair to Associate all the West together and it's true, France is no different than any Western society so we can just say "West" and just show one example and it applies for all of them.

Why is the Afghan gov such a failure that they cant gather their own people for a cause and according to your narrative, the paki gov is successful in gathering afghans against their own gov.
Don't avoid the question.
Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad.... you call the ISI bankroll Pakistani clerics constantly preaching in Quetta, Chaman, FATA and other Pakistani cities (especially those cities where Majority of Afghan refugee reside) that people must go to Afghanistan and start fighting in the name of Islam Jahad fe sabeullah... They emphasize that killing one Afghan who is working for the government is better and more rewarding than killing 70 Americans (pay attention to their MONAFIQAT) because these Afghans are collaborating with the invading American/NATO forces…is success for you..but is simply cowardice. Now if collaborating with foreign forces triggers Jehad, these clerics should declare Jehad on their own nation? Or how these poor village people been instructed to blow up bridges, roads, power polls/stations, burn schools, hospitals, clinics and etc…to fight the "Nato" with stucking a bomb in their rectum and yet you call it success?
The fact is a true and sincere Muslim should focus on his own Soul, family, city and nation before judging others. So the struggle these Munafiq ISI funded mullah are proposing should start within their own societies, when Tablighi Jamyat that has their HQ in Lahour a few miles from oldest brothel in region are the most active in Pashton/Afghan regions..should really tell you about MUNAFIQS SOB with political goals directed by their government and spying agency! The simple fact that an estimated 1.2 million Afghans who had converted to Christianity—more than 300000 in Kabul only should tell you how much the reign of terror ISI are unleashing in Afghanistan and you are cheerleading for is really successful. The damage your gang has done to Islam is unprecedented

The fact is Helmand valley project was NOT a charity from US of A as you initially claimed…even the Kabul Mazar and Salang highway was built on loan from CCCP NOT charity.
Banning the female veil in one of the most conservative parts of the country is hardly gradual modernization, well not unless you compare him to the communists.

Far more people have fought for leaders who had far less influence and power. His virtual non existence after his coup until Karzai gave him a call in the early 2000's is an embarrassment to his legacy.
WRONG again…Veil was NOT banned but made optional… he give people choice.
“As a result of Prime minster Sardar mohammad Daoud’s courageous decision, regarding optional usage of veil for women, the author's wife, Zahra Ahmad, and some other ladies were the first woman without veil to teach in Shah I Do Shamshira secondary boy's school in Kabul” Conspiracies and Atrocities in Afghanistan: 1700–2014 By Engineer Fazel Ahmed Afghan, MSc

The idea was to create a nation-state though centralization, moderation ad nationalism, with a powerful army, economical development and their appreciates ideological structures...start from where Amanullah had stopped 3 decade before---thus gradual moderation.
The killing of pro-Zahir Shah liberal democrats like Pohand Majro, Gen Katawazi and others by fanatics on behest of ISI should tell you how much of option the late king really had. The idea was to radicalized Afghan youth in the name of Islam to use them against godless communist…liberalism and people like Zahir Shah had no place in grand game…even then twice radical assassins try to kill him in Rome and the Taliban hold much of their initial success to Pakistan propaganda that they will bring the late king back—Pakis gov even invited Sardar Wali and there were talks of cabinet.
Over all the principle of common sense dictates that you cannot allege to label the sun dark and bright simultaneously. The sun is either dark or bright. People sees it and they know it is bright then you should not resort to label it dark…you cannot blame Zahir shah for not doing enough at the same time mentioning people resisting when he try to do something.ای وخته بېرته راشه يو افغان وزېږوه

Anyways I will fix it now"The past is not my concern. The future is no longer my concern either. One minute. One minute of everything at once. And anything before is nothing. Everything after nothing. Nothing in comparison to that one minute."
