    A Tale of Two Cities
(1859) is a novel by Charles Dickens, set in London and Paris before and during the French Revolution. With well over 200 million copies sold, it ranks among the most famous works in the history of literary fiction.[2]
The novel depicts the plight of the French peasantry demoralised by the French aristocracy in the years leading up to the revolution, the corresponding brutality demonstrated by the revolutionaries toward the former aristocrats in the early years of the revolution, and many unflattering social parallels with life in London during the same time period. It follows the lives of several protagonists through these events. The most notable are Charles Darnay and Sydney Carton. Darnay is a former French aristocrat who falls victim to the indiscriminate wrath of the revolution despite his virtuous nature, and Carton is a dissipated English barrister who endeavours to redeem his ill-spent life out of his unrequited love for Darnay's wife. The 45-chapter novel was published in 31 weekly instalments in Dickens's new literary periodical titled All the Year Round. From April 1859 to November 1859, Dickens also republished the chapters as eight monthly sections in green covers. All but three of Dickens's previous novels had appeared only as monthly instalments. The first weekly instalment of A Tale of Two Cities ran in the first issue of All the Year Round on 30 April 1859. The last ran thirty weeks later, on 26 November.[1]

Have to start somewhere, and at this point it is probably much more important to know my favorite book. Begin to accumulate the knowledge needed to effectively respond to my posts. I take no prisoners.

    Welcome to the forum.

If, as is perhaps suggested by your avatar, you are a female welcome even more so as we are in need of female posters i.e. the world is not exclusively inhabited by men and being in a forum where a gender which represents 50% of humanity is largely absent is not good aswe are deprived of the female perspective on things.

    Enjoy the forum.

Re topic: I have not read the novel but I can't help wondering if it had an effect on Orwell and his writing of "Animal Farm" later on, as that too alludes to a failed revolution where one ruling class takes (the pigs) over another.

Thanks to Egypt for supporting Bangladesh against Pakistani harassment and support for terrorists and war criminals!!

In fact the optimism is good for the forum, for a while, members willingly post and amuse other memebers; there is more discussions around and a strong sense that everything is just fine, apart from the fact that, people notice, the content of primary threads are all rubbish.

That's the signal that the beginning of the end is near.

        I wish to change that.

I am glad you appreciate it.

I come from a country where we have a female prime minister, female opposition leader and a year ago also a female foreign minister. The absence of female Pashtunay here was quite sad. That was partly due to some trolls, some of whom have left now.

Anyway your name is after the woman in the Thousand and one nights story?

                  Hi Scheherazade,

I really like your forum name, although I could never spell it if asked to.

I'm from Bangladesh, raised in the UK.

I'm ethnic Sylheti (so not technically Bengali).

I see. Bengal is also a province in India, right?

What do people of Bangladesh think of Afghanistan?

I won't answer that here since this is Sheherezade's thread but I'll answer it in another thread.

                            No problem.

In Afghanistan, Bangladeshi rice is very famous.

When I was in university I had a friend.

He told me he was a Mahmudzai and a relative of Zahir Shah.

I even wrote one whole essay for him in one night to help him with his coursework.

If anyone thinks I am lying then:

a: He lived in Ealing in west London a few years back.

b: In the late 1990s he was briefly married to a "Kalash"/Nuristani girl (Muslim though) which didn't work out.

                              c: His initials are W.S.

That is as far as I will go, though I have no contact with him now and have not had for years.
