I get so irritated by the double standard these nationalists have. Every Pashtun who is accomplished or talented is suddenly said to be half-Tajik or Tajik by them. It's ridiculous. I listen to Ahmad Zahir's songs on YouTube, and when I peer down at the comments, I see all these Khorasani nationalists proclaiming that he's the gem of Khorasan, etc. It's pathetic and laughable! I recently told a Khorasani nationalist (who pretends to be an Iranian on YouTube) that Ahmad Zahir is irrefutably an Afghan Pashtun. He denied this, and said that his ethnic background was propaganda spread by Pashtuns.
Uh. Okay.
My family knew Ahmad Zahir. One of my late uncles, who met a similar death by Khalqis, was his close friend. He is an Afghan Pashtun from Laghman and not the gem of Khorasan, but of Afghanistan! He died for Afghanistan because he refused to sing at Hafizullah Amin's daughter's birthday party.
Here's an excerpt from an article by NY Times:
"He also reflects an Afghanistan that was far less ethnically polarized than it is today. An ethnic Pashtun who sang mostly in Dari, he won fans in all ethnic groups.
''At that time there was not such a question -- we were Afghans,'' said Shah Muhammad, a Kabul bookseller who regularly sold books, Shakespeare among them, to Mr. Zahir.'
P.S: I love Ahmed Zahir for his voice and talent not his ethnicity. However, I'm angered by what these fascists are doing, because it's wrong to steal someone's identity.
