I heard you take lovely strolls to Hera Mandi every weekend. Anyways i heard a paki like you is having trouble immigrating to the west like all your other daal khor firends and lure a white girl to marry them. Is this true?

And wtf is a Michin Khel? lol.

I admit that I have posted this thread in the wrong place and would like to request the Admin to let this thread be here for a while. You can move it to it's related section later on. The reason behind this, is to make it seen by as much members as possible (Upon my guess, Hujra is the most frequently visited section of this forum ) because I so desperately need your responses.

The title tells you all. I am leaving Afghanistan for good (okay, may be not for good yet who knows, what if I got that red passport ) and would resettle in the UK, da khaira sara!. Please don't just bash me by saying; Oh no, we already got this country flooded with immigrants!

I have done some online research and things look to me pretty ugly in terms of finding jobs and making a living up there - specially for someone like me who doesn't have any skills at all.

Now, here comes my list of questions:

                1) I would hate to live on Khairat which is called 'Benefits', so this isn't even remotely on my mind. I would like to know how much one gets by the end of the month if works in a restaurant/shop/factory or drives a taxi? I don't really expect myself to be sitting behind a desk in the office and asking for coffee.

                2) Are there chances that you can both study and work at the same time - while feed your family too?

                3) Are there many racist people up in England or Wales (it might be a silly question but I am just concerned or may be paranoid)?

                4) I know there are lots of debates on TV about segregated communities in the UK and some call this an obstacle to non-whites being reintegrated into British society and culture. Yet, which city do you think I should choose to live in? I've heard London is expensive but has more job opportunities. I would like to know about a place where I can feel 'being home'. You know what I mean!

I actually had lots of questions in my head and they've just got off. Will came back with more questions if had these ones answered.

                Cheers mate!

                1) That depends.
From October, the minimum wage will be £6.31($9.73) p/h if you are over 21 years old. All jobs with a regular schedule will pay you at least this much.

Most Afghan immigrants (even those who are qualified engineers) who move here indeed become minicab (taxi) drivers.
Some days you might get some decent pay, others not so much.
It is not a particularly good job. Some have bad experiences with their office controllers & customers. Also the working hours are not that good either.
You need some money first. I know this Afghan who recently moved here who works in a factory saving up to be a minicab driver and life is hard for him.

Also don't be so prideful that you will never accept benefits.
They are there to help you when you need it and can help to support you.
Of course you should not become reliant on them.

                2) Study, work & feed your family? Well it depends on what sort of studies you will undertake, what sort of work you get and how big/reliant your family is.

There are certainly bursaries and the like offered to those who have children or need help supporting their family while studying.

                3) In London there is not much racism (well it depends where you are....London is a big city). I have been living here since 1995 and I have never been subject to any racism. However that is only my own personal experience. There is racism as in any society. However, it should not be something to fear. It just seems to be publicised a lot on the internet.

I cannot speak for the rest of England & Wales. Areas where there are not diverse populations that are well integrated are certainly more likely to have more racism but that shouldn't matter to you as I do not recommend living anywhere but London.

                4) London by far. Do not even bother considering anywhere else. London is the best choice for Afghan immigrants. More than any other city in the world (debatable).

There are by far more Pashtuns in London than any other city in the West.
The vast majority of those Pashtuns live in West London which is where I recommend you go.
Unlike many other cities, the Pashtuns in London are closely related. You needn't fear about losing your culture given the high density of Afghans here. You can have a nice traditional social life drinking your chai sitting on toshakas discussing anything ranging from your last taxi job to world politics.
There is the Afghan Society (dominated by Pashtuns) here that can help you - and its not a joke like those in other countries where they do that mixed attan with girls not wearing any trousers showing off to white people. You can do real last-man-standing mens' attan on Eid for example.
Free healthcare. World-class universities. A developed transport system. A temperate climate (I really like the weather here. Would not change it for anything. People complain about the rain but it rains more in Rome & New York City than it does in London).
There are various organisations & benefits that can help you.

If I knew more about you & your circumstances I could offer you more targeted information.

Bear in mind that I get nothing from you choosing to come to London so I have no incentive to lie to you or portray life in London as some sort of paradise on Earth because its not. Life is tough for newly arrived immigrants, particularly in recent years. However, take the opportunities offered to you and persevere. It is definitely possible to be successful.

If you want more information feel free to ask.

Muslims in UK, North America and Europe are desperate to look for a place where they can settle and practice their religion.

Yet, more Muslims still want to leave home country to settle in this cursed environment.

Try another country that is safe, stable, peaceful and where you won't have to compromise your religion in order to find a job or to send your children to school.

People think in very materialistic terms. We leave the poverty and insecurity in our homeland in order to exchange our spirit and values for wealth and stability.

I hope you find some place better than these Western countries.

^ A couple of months back my friend said "you are the complete opposite of the typical Afghan stereotype"....that's the best compliment he could have given me.

(the typical Afghan stereotype being the loud horny FOB gangster wannabes without any qualifications chasing after Indian girls at summer melas trying to get into fights with other immigrants proudly proclaiming their Afghanness to the world)

I really don't like the vast majority of Afghan youths here in the UK either.

Thank you everybody and specially, Mr. Haris, your input is really helpful.
All of your advices are very useful to me. It really gave me a very realistic insight of the British life - for an immigrant. I didn't want to be self-delusional about all the decencies of moving to the UK and always tend to look at the other side of the picture too. Haven't made a final decision yet, however, I have very little time on my hands before I give it a go or not. I am still weighing my options and it's really a painful dilemma. I wish I could explain on this public board that why can’t I simply choose to stay in Afghanistan/Pakistan.

I also watched Citizen or Stranger on Aljazeera, a documentary about the lives of immigrants in Europe, US and Canada. It occurred to me that at least Britain is more welcoming to immigrants than the rest of Europe. Also, I even explored some parts of Western London on Google Street View, i.e. Southall, and it was really persuading to see some Pakistani/Afghan men in Shalwar Kamees and the women wearing scarf and spotted some nice mosques as well. I also dug out some of the real estate websites in the UK like gumtree.com and rightmove.co.uk for rent rates in and around London – couldn't find a flat of 2 bedrooms (living in a house will be luxurious form me) any cheaper than 700 Pounds per month.
Sometimes, the fact that unlike most of the other Afghan immigrants, I will not be entering the UK illegally (mentioned earlier, it's a five years Special Immigrant Visa for me and my family), somewhat assures me that I may face lesser problems in my early days in the UK. I know people settle down after a while. But, is it really something that would make me any different from other fresh immigrants?

                            Again, thanks a lot.

Perhapse there are other big cities in the UK you will find more appealing? I personally would rather live in Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds etc..plus you would be able to find rents half the price and much better. London is too hectic.
