How much life will become easy if we exclude food and drinks from religion and make hygiene, balanced diet and healthy eating criteria for selecting a food item or a place where to eat or drink!

One day this will happen but will take time that Islam will emerge only as a religion to cater for your beliefs, worship modes and morality and not to interfere what you wear, what you eat or what you drink.

The people who drink may not not be necessarily called drunkard. Being drunk is one thing and drinking a glass of wine is another thing. What religion asks you not be drunk to lose your senses and harm others by some physical or verbal act. This is a moral issue that's why Quran recommends not be drunk or intoxicated(khamar is intoxication or being drunk not alcohol).

Halal food is again a religious concept to remeber the Lord while eating or preparing food or meat but is not a ritual. Halal is now a days promoted by Arabs for their food chains for monetary gain not a religious act of piety.

I have seen thousands of Muslims selling alcohol and even pork because they separate business from their private religious beliefs.

Are you aware of the cons associated with drinking?
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

Yes definitely. Excess of very thing is bad. One can die drinking 100 glasses of pure mineral water at a stretch. Alcohol can be used as a life saving drug and can serve as a killer.

Also a drunkard can have moral issues but as I said earlier having a glass of red wine after lunch as doctors recommend is one thing and being alcoholic another. All this does not mean I drink myself but it is my theoretical stand on this issue.

Also I am confused to see the usually drinking nations in the developed world touch the zenith of glory while the so called non drinking Muslims touch the abyss of poverty, illiteracy, wars, crimes, corruption and under development.

I see my drinking friends at a week end party early in the morning in their duties but many Muslims who do not touch a glass of alcohol not regular, not punctual and not dutiful!

You are aware of the addiction associated with it? As in, it's not as simple as drinking it once or twice, it's an addiction and waste of time.

It seems to me members like Badlun more and more keep trying to narrow and limit the role of religion, Soon they'll say religion has nothing to do with Morality, it's just a philosophy.

Alcohol is a medicine in CONTROLLED regulated conditions under the supervision of a doctor, pharmacist or pharmaceutical chemist. NOT going to the bar to drink recreationally So this analogy is incorrect. Stomach bacteria also produce alcohol in some minute amount, but that doesn't mean that humans were meant to consume alcohol or that alcohol has a function for the body.

Most Halal institutions are not run by Arabs, they're run by Pakistanis and Other South Asians, Because most Arabs in North America are Lebanese and Syrian Christians so they're not concerned about Halal or Harram.

Consuming alcohol is an act of mental weakness; as alcohol is a substance when consumed recreationally and not under strict medical supervision and guidelines attempts to affect the senses and central nervous system. So whether someone is a drunkard or not is irrelevant, the motivation for drinking alcohol is due to superficial emotional impulses and thus should not be consumed casually in any instance, even in slight amounts.

Food and Drink DO fall in the realm of religion since Morality also deals with the Ethics of consumption; Since using alcohol recreationally is uselessl and demonstration of weakness and self destructive it falls into morality. Likewise with how you kill and slaughter food. Food that is not killed properly is unethical to eat and detrimental to society and the environment as this promotes disregard for animals.

The Qur'an has two main verses dealing with alcohol; one deals with not getting drunk, the other deals with the idea that while alcohol MAY have certain benefits, IT has MORE draw backs and that alcohol should be avoided due to its drawbacks unless there is a necessity for it. In a casual setting there is no necessity.

Yes I totally agree with your analysis. This is a very balanced picture of the issue.

If alcohol compels you to be unethical or immoral then it is something bad but it has some benefits too as mentioned in Quran. If one drinks and not get addicted to it then as there is no bad consequence, merely drinking cannot be labelled as bad. There are many drinkers who are not addict. They are drinkers but not drunks or drunkards.

One can get addicted to naswar(snuff) or tobacco or opium but these are not mentioned in Quran. I do not know why?

I ams till confused why drinking nations are more successful in life than the so called non drinking people like Muslims?

Do you think Muslim majority countries were always a mess? Do you not realize the obvious imperialism going on, the invasion of sovereign countries and massive deaths of civilians?

What alcoholism does offer is spousal abuse, children abuse, and getting your head chopped of by a train since someone decided to go down the tracks, because in their drunk state of mind it appeared like a gold-pot. To make such claims Badlun, you need substantial evidence. I can loot your house, and then start standing with one leg on my forehead. Now should everyone start standing that way, since I am rich(which I gained by robbing you)?
