Firing rounds into the air should be confined to rural areas, not karachi or peshawar, firing close to vertical being better than firing to at shallow angles to the horizon,

Range of projectile is determined by muzzel vel. and cosine of projectory angle, hence the vel. and kintetic energy is higher => potentially fatal

Firing up mean falling bullets reach terminal velocity when down bound, due to increased drag (air resistance force) of tumbling bullet, to the point that the bullet is falling at much reduced velocity than muzzel velocity (recal that in absence of air resistance a bullet will fall at same speed as it is launched even if it is tumbling, on level ground trajectory).

          As for fatalities, read this:

          Falling-bullet injuries
"Bullets are not greeting cards. Celebrate without firearms." from the IANSA Macedonian poster campaign, December 2005
Bullets fired into the air usually fall back at terminal velocity, speeds much lower than those at which they leave the barrel of a firearm. Nevertheless, people can be injured, sometimes fatally, when bullets discharged into the air fall back down. The higher mortality is related to the higher incidence of head wounds from falling bullets. Bullets fired at lower angles than vertical can be yet more dangerous, as the bullet maintains its angular ballistic trajectory and is far less likely to engage in tumbling motion, and so travels at a speed much higher than its terminal velocity in a purely vertical fall.
A study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that 80% of celebratory gunfire-related injuries are to the head, feet, and shoulders.[6] In the U.S. Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, about two people die and about 25 more are injured each year from celebratory gunfire on New Year's Eve, the CDC says.[4] Between the years 1985 and 1992, doctors at the King/Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, treated some 118 people for random falling-bullet injuries. Thirty-eight of them died.[7] Kuwaitis celebrating in 1991 at the end of the Gulf War by firing weapons into the air caused 20 deaths from falling bullets.[7]
Firearms expert Julian Hatcher studied falling bullets and found that .30 caliber rounds reach terminal velocities of 300 feet per second (90 m/s) and larger .50 caliber bullets have a terminal velocity of 500 feet per second (150 m/s).[8] A bullet traveling at only 150 feet per second (46 m/s) to 170 feet per second (52 m/s) can penetrate human skin,[9] and at 200 feet per second (60 m/s) it can penetrate the skull.[10] A bullet that does not penetrate the skull may still result in an intracranial injury.[11]
In 2005, the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA) ran education campaigns on the dangers of celebratory gunfire in Serbia and Montenegro.[12] In Serbia, the campaign slogan was "every bullet that is fired up, must come down."[13]
          [edit]Property damage

Bullets often lodge in roofs, causing minor damage that requires repair in most cases. Normally, the bullet will penetrate the roof surface through to the roof deck, leaving a hole where water may run into the building.[14] If the damage is not discovered and repaired, the leak can cause more costly water damage to the structure.

          Its lifted from wikipedia.

Shehbaz Jan, solar Hijra calendar is followed in daily life of Afghanistan.

It is the official calendar of Afghanistan.

If you notice any televised or photo footage of Afghanistan, for example news, elections, jirga, or the news, or on internet like www.pajhwok.com you will see dates in solar Hejira. The western calendar is known and used when like dealing with western world.

On the Afghan flag, on my tazkara and passport all dates are solar Hejira.

              Salam killa!

Nowroz calendar is not the calendar name but if you mean jalali calendar, the one used by iranians, is the same calendar system as used in afghanistan.

Only difference that afghans use dari names of months(hamal, saur, jawza) or pashto names of months (waray, ghwayay, gharbolay. . . )

It starts with hijrat of mohammad(S) and based on sun year rather than moon months. Moon months worked well for non-farming tradering arabs, but in persia and hind, farming communities used sun year where months remain fixed to farming seasons, spring is always on the same month, where as the lunar month for spring changes with moon month calendar.

Nawroz is old tradition but it is very simplistic to say its unislamic, because nawroz is not about zoroaster fireworshippers, its really about spring, the beginning of new farming year, season when ground has been made ready for growing crops and first signs of new life, crops life appear.

It is just another calendar that suits farmers. As for fire worshippers or sunworshippers, well, the case is answered, they worshipped the sun because it was an essential part of farming.

Btw i dont celebrate nwa kal/nauroz, though many afghans do.

                you are just dumb.
offcourse you follow the angreez calender because you have been their little slaves.thats why you have saturday and sunday off ,thats why english is your second language.

your brother emptying the magazine is the double dumb as he is celeberating a year that is not his and also firing in the air which may cause someone to get injured or die.

True, I think people make it un-islamic. It a celebration of season, just like people celebrate harvesting of crop in india, a celebration of what allah has provided us.

Its not like American Thanksgiving, which is, originally, to do with christian reformists who had emigrated to the new world, and wanted a new name of a celebration to replace the older practice of catholicism, which they were rejecting.

What i find un-islamic is muslims celebrating christmas especially in the west to integrate and decorating homes with christmas trees, forgetting the essence what heresy they are committing.

I dunno, I was asked by a Persian friend if I could publically promote how the Baluch celebrate nawroz. Coming from Paki-land I dont have a clue what happens during this festival. I asked a Baluch from Iran and he was so angry that I would bring up such a thing. He wanted me to drop out of the project not because its un-islasmic but due to being a Persian festival.
