This fellow Krauss has reintroduced the idea 'something from nothing', in a more elaborate and formalised way, that has been said before in a book called the Dancing Wu Li Masters written by a journalist Gary Zukav, self acknowledged as scientifically untrained.

He spent time with some notable physicists in the US few decades ago, and referred to matter coming to existence out of empty space, and this was juxtaposed with eastern philosophy (probably due to the 60's LSD flashback of American tripppers in India who listened to the Om Om Om by the Maharishi whilst George Harrison strummed with Ravi Shankar, out of nuthing kums sum thing, Om Om Om)

In essence what this means can be supposed by empty space being a numerical quantity zero. Zero for many observers means nothing. It quantifies zilch, nada. However to a mathematician zero is a sum of any combination of unique number pairs, for instance (-2) + (+2) = 0. To a bank clerk, a security guard with a bank debt of €2000 clearing a cheque worth €2000 has zero money in the bank in that account. To a particle physicist, a particle of matter + particle of antimatter of same dimensions is empty space. However the probability of the sum of matter and antimatter remaining in on place as 'empty space' is a probability function and it has a time of existence (expressed as a half-life). Some time it exists as a matter, and the antimatter may be somewhere else, far away not to cause annihilation, and other times both are close enough to be annihilated into a burst of energy.
Gary Zukoff refers to experiments that have shown particles (and anti-particles) emerging from empty space momentarily and then annihilating to space with burst of energy. These events are at a quantum level, very small scale, planck lenghts and planck times. The Feynmann diagrams looks like two dots connected by two symmetric curves with arrows in one direction only signifying time line of the event, one curve labelled matter particle, other anti-matter particle, appearing from nothing, existing for a while and then disappearing into nothing. Voila!!!!

What I have described is a Model, a construct of ideas and images, to render a very complex series of events into a simplified expression. Tearing this model apart is like punching the fallacious strawman.

For me this is fascinating, it reveals the grandeur of scale of time, distance and dimensions, the obscure and unknown cosmos. The more you know, more you realise the insignificance of what you know compared to what is out there.

OK enough of this cosmic crap, lets google-image Kim Kardashian.

yes in math when we use 0 it is an additive identity, it acts as a unit by which we can build identities.

This makes it suitable as being the origin of real numbers.

                oh no! not richard DORKins.
is there any proof that there was NOTHING, to begin with?

well the video's thesis is that the laws of physics would indicate that the universe was energetically stable before the big bang and that the total energy in the universe was 0 and since matter and energy are the same by Einstein's Mass-Energy equivalent, for the universe to exist it means, a spontaneous energy ripple caused the big bang. Hence something came out of nothing.

I don't necessarily agree with that thesis, but I want to upset and cause a headache for people who have a bitterness towards science. My reasons for disagreeing are bit sophisticated to use my ideas incorrectly like Khushal does and you have adone.

like i said, is there any proof that there was a NOTHING, ever? an energy ripple is not NOTHING.

you're just going in circles now ...your argument was a straw man.

now that's how indoctrinated people behave.

That's because no one has claimed there is proof; the claim the evidence we do have shows it is possible for a universe to begin from nothing (according o Strauss' explanation)

to quote a well known forum hypocrite "try to analyse what is being said THEN respond"

I wish they abided by those words, but hypocrites will always act hypocritically right?

another straw-man ...no one said that either, that's just Strauss' explanation of the evidence

more of your lies and deceit again Faye.
