the above baobab tre,e is said, from carbon dating, to be able to live up to 3,000 years.
we have them in australia. in fact my neighbour has some seeds planted that have sprouted but is not sure if they can survive in this area. australian ones are different and the ones on madagascar, different again.though.

Dear Faye - the above isn't a Baobab, it is an Adenium (Apocynaceae).
It is not a big tree, but has a big stemm.

Dear Faye, to regions that re dry like Madagaskar or Socotra it is typical that plants have big stems. So You will find many such plants: Baobab, Pachypodium, Adenium, Adenia, Dendrosicyos....

Adenium is part of Apocynaceae(like Oleander and Strophanth) - all these plants have nice flowers, buut mostly all are toxic, Adenium is also one of the ones that are quiet toxic
