actually if you know Shamlawar Khurasaani; his father was apart of Najibullah's government. These modern extremists are just left over communists.

Yes its true MAiwand al Afghani is like him. He told me that his family lived in Kabul, many had finisched univercity and were communist, they also lived in mykroyans, you know those sovjet flats. He was also supporter of Najibullah, but then suddenly changed, and became well you know how he is now....

I wonder what chnaged them so drastically?

he showed a picture of Abdul Ghaffar Khan were he is greeted by Indians and is claiming that he is not a good muslim leader -_-, or a good muslim in general. If that is not extremism than what is....

I thought Extremist (Muslim) is a person who goes to the extreme level of practicing Islam - a good Muslim in other words.

                    So is fundamentalist.

Fundamentalists and extremists dont necessarily have to be religous.

I admired and admire my tribe and its fighting men,who fought as a laskhar against Brits,Mongols,Russians,Greeks and anyone else tried to attack Afghanistan, and in capturing Attoq and whole of Pakistan beside this, especially my tribe led the final battles in capturing dehli and sourrounding areas.

Kept out of politics. In our majlis Amin wardak was often praised by some and on other extreme flower of faith (kharoti) was praised. commentary was always about mujahids and there was distrust of anything to do with politics. Even now, I keep out of politics as prescribed by the parties, no one party satisfies my views, so I stick policies rather than the parties.
Many of you were probably not born then, I was a teenager, either with a brown leather bound panasonic radio stuck to my ear or i was recording cassettes with ahmed zahir songs. We were moving from zabul to sarobi(Kabul) and on. . .when Russian tanks rolled in.

Tell you the truth, looking back now with gestalt perspective, we had an incomplete view of what was going on, of what we were hearing, all information that came to us was tinged with that messenger's bias. Who we thought was good now turns out quite different. Because we were isolated in zabul.

NO an extremist is the one who thinks how he practises Islam is the only correct way and others who may disagree whith him are in his eyes kafir....
If extremist only focused on themeself there would e no problem, peopel would hardly mention them on tv, but the thing is, that they force peopel to think and act like them and if they don't then you know what you get.....

Because people need someone to blame and a lie that people are already convinced to believe in is easy to sell. Also, religious extremists and fundamentalists do tend to have zero respect for systems that stand in their ways.
