  • Who was your childhood favorite Afghan leader?

Some of us might have been kids when there were Soviets vs Mujahiddin and then came the civil war and the Taliban subsequently. Of course war stories, and stories of braveries and loyalties to different fictions had always been the points of discussions on Dastarkhwan or when sipping tea and sitting around Sandali. And children as silent observers would also try to paint the picture of their favorite leaders in their minds learning about them from their elders. As with the passage of time perceptions change and so do ideologies and inspirations. You may not be liking those heroes of your childhood anymore.

My dad was with Hizb-e-Islami (even though he quit after the Soviet withdrew) and at that time of my childhood my favorite war song was:

    Mujahiddin pa toro ghro ki
    Shorawian pa tayaro ki

    and...

    Gulbadin, makh ye speen
    Wali Khan makh ye tor

Who was your childhood Afghan leader? And your favorite war song?

P.S. Don't just say my favorite leader was Mr. Noneof Yourbusiness. It's just to know if you ever had such inspirations when you guys were kids. Coz I did and don't like Gulbadin anymore.

You parents were surely very wise to the fact that children should be kept non-political. Most parents don't actually care and my parents were sort of them.

Then you must love Jalaludin Haqqani since he was his main commander.

What makes you say that? I am not a supporter of Ikhwanis.

another ideological change; you were all about Abdullah Azzam last year.

well point being that just because he was under Khalis then doesn't mean his soldiers were good guys. Hekmatyar was parthered with Khalis; but Khalis disbanded from him.

you are wrong. I am not all about Abdullah Azzam. Obviously I love him just like I love any other Mujahid. But I disassociate myself from Ikhwanism. I am very much against Ikhwani ideology.

You don't know what you are talking about.

I like Khalis Baba. Thats why I like Haqqani. Because I know their history. Khalis was the Imam in a village near where I come from. We know him and his whole history. He was great man. So is his legacy.

Khalis was ALWAYS in Nangarhar, and he's an Ikhwani.

Haqqanis are just sour apples from his camp.

Younis Khalis had a job as a publicist in Kabul before Jihad.

we never grew up with admiration for any leader or group, simply an admiration for mujahideen

my father was anti gulbadin for as long as i can remember, as he saw through him from the very beginning

even during the 90s dog fight, my family was more anti jamiat then pro hezb

As a child I was innocent and didn't had any to admire, I think as a child no one have such thing, only the brainwashed talib and extremist children have such idols....

How many Afghans were not-brainwashed-extremists during the Soviet-Afghan war?
