Now, going back to the topic ...

I must say, this is a very interesting question, knowing what Pashtun men want in their wives. Note the responses so far, folks: "obedience towards husbands," "good cook," "not too smart (not too dumb either)," etc. Keep them coming, brothers. One could write a book on this, particularly those interested in anthropology and Pashtuns. It's a survey to explore men's expectations from their wives, provided all the males who respond are telling the truth.

(I'd say the same about the topic of what women consider best qualities in men.)

Then also note how many males are asking for intelligence or at least a decent education in women. Needless to say, only intelligent men would seek an intelligent woman as a potential partner.

More later :p That was just to say.... nice question for a survey!

Shlombay, my dear brother, as I always say, never ever be "sorry" for expressing an opinion.

      Now, you said:

So, yeah, we're obviously saying the same thing, no? I don't believe in selfishness. That doesn't work in a marriage -- or in any other sort of relationship (friendship, professional relationships, etc.). So you have to compromise, which means one partner will have to make certain sacrifices and so will the other partner. WHAT should be sacrificed is totally -- or should be totally -- up to the couple to decide.

My list? ... lol :p I don't have a list, mara. I don't keep a list of "things I want in a man" or "things I want in a marriage" or "things my husband must do for me," etc. Life doesn't work that way all the time, unfortunately. Of course, certain standards MUST be kept (e.g., ensuring that the partner is respectful towards not just me but to other humans as well) and should not be compromised. There gotta be certain things you shouldn't willingly give up for the person you love or want to marry. But that's what you have to decide yourself, or with your partner.

Forgot to point this very important matter out as well! :D Sometimes, a woman wants an educated man who cares for her and is willing to sacrifice.

It's so easy, isn't it? I mean, ALL we want from each other (men from their wives, women from their husbands) is someone who will respect them and make sacrifices when needed. Is it REALLY that much to ask for? :p

Someone who has a mind of her own and can think for herself and stand up for what she believes in? Yea.. pretty admirable. =)

                          Assalam-ul-Alaikum,

I am Khan Gul from Khyber Pukhtunkhwa. Not very well educated but love to read a lot. 50 Years old and happily married for the last 24 years. I love my wife. From all angles she is a good human being. Or should I say a perfect life partner? Well she is though the only complaint I have against her is that she never uses her 6th sense, but I am now used to it.

                                Religion.

Rasullulah (saw) said that there are four aspects that a man looks for in a spouse, her beauty, lineage, wealth and religion. What was Rasullulah's (saw) advice? Marry the one with religion.

                                End of story.
I desire that which is Just - House of Dukemina.
