Yes. My father showed me pictures of his pohantoon years. He looked like Ashton Kutcher. He was wearing bell bottoms, had sunglasses on all the time, and medium length hair, driving a beetle, listening to The Beatles.
My mother wore skirts, coats, dresses, permed her hair, etc. I was surprised to also hear and see this. But it was all normal.
Yep, all that jazz, but limited to certain places. Other places it was the nice blue uniform
Forty years ago, Kabul was considered the playground of South East Asia, a city booming with art, where girls wore the cowboy American attire to university and attended fashionable parties that mirrored the night life of Paris, sporting Chanel miniskirts and Guy Laroche cosmetics. In all honesty, I wouldn't be surprised. When my mother, who I think would be the most conservative woman I know, tells me about what she wore, when and where she did in her youth and her early married life before moving here, I am very very surprised. And what she tells me about it now, even more.
That is interesting to know...What I observed in Pekhawar is that, the Dari speakers who mostly lived in posh localities were very fond of fashion. Probably, they were from Kabul. We local people were simple compared to them.

Yes, people who hail from Kabul City tend to be more modernized and into fashion. Three decades ago, that is how the whole capital was.

Afghans stand out everywhere, for the good and the bad fashion statements they make. Maybe they're not, but the Afghans I know always appear overdressed.

kakargirl khorai daira manana...this means kamis partug is the dominent dress with gradlaman for elder women ... and in Kabul, it gets more westernised.
^ The capital has been more Westernized....but when has it not lol. Still, its half and half. Many of the females still wear kamis partug, and many wear Western cloths.
But outside of the capital city, they are very much rural conservatives.

wror forget kabul lol lets talk about the heartland of pashtuns kandahar helmand we wear partog kameez very nice lol
but if you are in the streets....the females should not wear colored shalwar kameez, they tend to get harrassed. I experienced it a few times. So they have to wear a long scarf that covers it up, or a black cloak over it.
