funny thing is Shorwa is an Arabic word, well Shorbah, but it's derived from the same root.

for Afghanistan pashtoons, shorwa is the ultimate food.... hamda wus che yaw ghat da shorwa kasa wei, per da psa ghwakha aw patatai wei, aw tawda wacha dodei aw, yakhai shlombay sara la salad aw da gharma wakht... tsona ba khwand woki... yummmyyy!
actually most of the food you identify as Afghan, is actually of Turkic or Persian origin.

for example shlombay and dodai, are just doogh and naan in persian.

KHan ...here's the Truth about Pashtuns

We come from diverse genetic and ethnic origins

some of us are descendants of Bactrians and Soghdians, some of us descended from Scythians and Ghorians

my tribe's name is "Sakzai" which means our origins are Scythian we became assimilated into the Ghilzai Confederacy of Pashtuns 800 or so years ago. We're apart of the Hotak branch of Pashtuns.

People around Peshwawar are mixed with Pashtun settlers and Native Peoples who are of Indian origins. Hence we have Toramana who idealizes Ancient Indian personalities such as Toramana.

Some other Pashtuns like in the area of Laghman and Logar, Paktia and Ghazni are of Tajik or Turkic origins. The Kharoti who are also Ghilzai Pashtuns, were actually mixed families of Turkish and Pashtuns.

There is no such thing as a pure Pashtun, and even how ancient Pashtun society actually is , is a mystery, some very zealous nationalists will say we're 5,000 years old but there's not a single relic or reference which confirms this. The first Pashto linguistic evidence is only 600 years old. Which means that the language most likely developed with the last 1000-1200 years.

Our genetics indicates that we're merely derived from different Indo-Aryans, and sometimes Turkic Groups.

Minus the huge cinnamon stick. I am a shorwa fan, but no, I couldn't eat it everyday as some members suggested.

                    real smooth.

come on ...afghans eat dhal too.

And they have something similar to shorwa but not quite. It's still the same concept - wet bread.

That fact that there's a Pashto word for dhaal "patai" is evidence that lentils are traditionally eaten in the area.

Thanks! I get it now. We use the word shorwa for plain gravy which is not very exciting, hence I didn't know what the fuss was about

many turks came from central asia to settle in modern day turkey, not to mention we all come from africa.

pashtun is a state of mind, the genetic stuff is for weirdos to circle jerk over.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.
