              • I'm just kidding but I dont think face covering is necessary, if someone wants to do it then fine. main point though is if it doesnt obstruct someone's ability to lead a normal life.

if women practice veiling strictly it can lead to vitamin D deficiency and create health complications.

                    • I think we can safely say that the Burqa, and face veiling, is not part of traditional Pashtun culture since noone has been able to show that face veiling was part of Pashtun culture prior to the 17th century.

remember the Baburnama quote, about the Yusufzai lady who was face veiling? That's 15th/16th century.

                          • The central idea roadrunner is pushing is that there is some innate, original, quintessential Pashtun culture that is being subverted under a layer of Arabism. That is just down right foolish.

Here is the representative reality on the ground:

"In the streets in Afghanistan today, the majority of women still wear the burqa. As one woman wrote in Kabul Press: “The Taliban are gone, but the burqa still rules women. This is not just an isolated or a traditional aspect of life in Afghanistan. The burqa is related to the position of women in Afghan society. There is no crucial difference between the Taliban burqa and the burqa that women wear in Karzai’s Afghanistan.”

So lets attempt to impose this idiotic algorithm of Roadrunners onto American society. Lets take the quintessential American seen here:

And lets ask Johnny Depp, seen here, why he doesnt dress like General Washington:

                            http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...w=1345&bih=570

Why he doesnt shedd of the french, greek, and Itialian contributions to his American dress code... because obviously, since Johnny does not dress like George, he is not representative of the American masses or Pax Americana (sarcasm).

I really do think your arguments wouldn't seem so infantile if you missed out the child like outbursts of name calling.

You've totally missed what I was saying also. Women do currently walk around Kabul in a Burkha and are veiled. But it's not their tradition. For many centuries Pashtun/Afghan women did not wear any veil.

The advent of Islam did not bring about veiling, it was the wars that brought it around. When Afghan women veil, it is a sign the society is sick. When it prospers, the women in Afghanistan do not veil.

Veiling is most certainly an Arab tradition. It is a European one, and a Chinese one also, but they have discarded it.
