My cartilage got infected when I it pierced. It was so bad, I couldn't hold my head straight for days. Bugger was, it was a public holiday two days straight after the weekend (when I got them done), so I couldn't even get a doctors appointment to ask for antibiotics. My glands were triple their size, my ears would continuously be throbbing, and my head was so heavy, I couldn't even lift it to the extent that I had to do my prayers sitting down for about one day (all for beauty - what a joke). When I managed to get an appointment, I knew I wasn't going to take out my earrings, as the doctor suggested, I just wanted a course of anitbiotics to do the job. And since that day, I haven't felt any pain.

... so yeah, belly piercings would be a killer ...

If you've always wanted one, go for it. Just be sure to keep it clean twice a day, k?
I've had mine for two years now, and it's all good still. And it feels SO damn GOOD!

PashtunQueen: Oh no ... it only lasted a few days. I went for a week without any pain. Second week came and man, I looked like a blow fish. My friend has had hers done three times now because hers gets infected so bad she always has to have cists removed and what not. I guess it works for some, and not for others.

So the infection itself doesn't hurt? I've seen pictures and videos of infected piercings -- mostly belly, since that was my major concern -- and my sister had her ear infected about ten years ago right after she got the piercing. It was all pus coming out of it and blood too at times, but I'm not sure if there was pain... though the pus and blood are prolly more unfavorable than the pain, I say.

The infection hurts, sure it does. What I meant was that for a week after doing it, I was fine. The second week was painful. But within weeks, the infection subsided. Like you suggested earlier, keeping it clean with the recommended antibacterials and antiseptics is all you need to avoid it. But some places, due to the natural disturbance and imbalances , are bound to end up under the weather.

I passed out - but it didn't hurt. They clamp your belly button with this thing that looks like a hole puncher so there is so much pressure that the piercing is easy and painless.

Mine never got infected either. alhamdulillah. I just feel so weird now...cuz I have a hole that won't go away. I want to fill it with some bling

So basically, I can put my belly ring back in? If my future hubby likes it..then it'd be "for him"...right? Then this should be fine....?

Muslimah: Yes you can, provided only he (or only Mahrams) sees it. If however, it causes health problems, then you are to avoid it, as our health and bodies are Amanah, and we ought to take care of them.

Amaanat. Trust. Something you keep/have that doesn't actually belong to you...

Nose piercings are fine within the bounds of Islam (refer to the first page of this thread. If I am not mistaken, the concept has been explained). =)
