No worries Arevpasht, we appreciate learning of different cultures here.

    Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing Arevapasht! Some of that clothing is really nice! Can you still buy that style of clothing?

Dear Elsii, to answer You, You can buy some types of them, they are mostly pproduced on request, but some types get lost with the loose of the territories where they were produced. However many attributes and clothes are in sell in a central national objects exposition.

Because evreone wants to looke like thos actors in the movies they see. Pashtun also will stop wearing traditional clothes if they get the chance and money to buy western clothing. And it is happing now, at the weding I see the mojority of women wear punjabi clothing than traditional afghan ones, and after couple of years if the parents let them they will even wear western clothes.

Nowadays, it is cheaper & comfortable to an extent to wear pants and shirt compare to wearing traditional clothing. For example,

            - Our kameez and partog gets dirty very fast. You have to wash, wait till it drys and you almost have no option but to iron it as well. On the other hand, you don't have to wash jeans or pants that often.

            - It is also cheaper because you can buy a pair or two of pants/jeans and you can get simple shirts and t-shirts for $.50 to $1.00 compare to spending $5 - $10 on a pair of kameez and partoogs.

            - Obviously style plays a major role as well. Our traditional clothes are very plain and simple. The most you can do is change colors (even there you don't have too many options as you can't wear red, blue, green, yellow, pink, orange etc).

Still, I love kameez partoog and always wear them. I have about 6 pairs here in Canada.

First of all, pants was first introduced by Central Asians. So in a sense, they adopted our dress from the get go.

But anways, the reasons were already said by others.

                  1. Readily available
                  2. Cheap to mass produce
                  3. European/North American Mass Media cultural exposure via sports, internet, music, etc.
                  4. Effects of Imperialism and its inferiority complex (India, South and N. Africa, China, Eurasia)
