You were informed correctly, one should maintain a calm, still, depressed, disgruntled (or outright angry) demeanor while black metal is being played. In some situations it may be appropriate to stand in place slinging your head about violently (this rule is voided for those with short hair; at minimum hair must be long enough to cover the entire face).

there were all kinds of bands playing in seattle, not just grunge. every night there would be 3 bands from 9-2am.
