    Even though the other thread covers this, I want to avoid dumb posts of Slipknot and Marilyn Manson and aging women trying to pretend like she's attuned to the younger generations

    the harder, most eviscerating, most esoteric and inaccessible as possible that no decrepit hippie nana can even tolerate it.

                        Umm, generally speaking, black metal musicians and their primary fanbase are composed of serious intellectuals. A few of them may be so tormented by their own perception of life and reality that they resort to something like heroin but this isn't really the rule. The average drug addict could neither comprehend or create black metal.

                          the fanbase and musos i met, playing this 'highly intellectual music', in seattle and australia, were cokeheads or speedfreaks.
                          they were actually much better to be around at gigs, than drunks.
                          most of the punk musos i know, or encountered in england, america and australia, were on heroin or speed.

                            Punk musicians - yeah, often junkies or drunks, no comment there. I can only speak for black metal musicians and culture in central Europe (Germany/Slovakia/Poland). It's a debatable subject and I know I went out on a limb having the nerve to call black metal musicians intellectual but I went with my feeling and from experience, most of those in Central Europe are what I personally would define as hyper-intelligent compared to the average drone. They seem to be perceptive of things that the common person is incapable of comprehending. But seriously, this thread shouldn't devolve into the analysis of whether or not black metal musicians qualify as intellectuals haha. Of course, there's no tangible answer.

                              do these supposed hyperintelligent, ever dance to this sound or do they sit there, reading a printout of the lyrics?
                              in seattle, after i danced all the way through some of this stuff, which had good drumming, i was informed, that dancing to this was 'not cool'. lol
