seaching for females is hard enough, due to the fact that information about women is private and not written down. Also, if the woman had a name, it would be changed according to what husband(s) he marries to, doesn't matter, many Afghans don't have a technical last name since fixed last names came during modern societies, but using a family name like Yusufzai or Adamkhel can be a good substitute for a modern western last name.
Afghans just have multiple mononyms, Sharbat Gula is just a nick name, but to make a last name that is legimate, we gotta know if she's a ghilzai from this or that khel etc.
Most Pashtuns use Khan as a last name, but Khan is a title like Chaudry for punjabis, and it would make people think your a descendant of Ghenghis Khan when most pashtoons obv don't look like Ghenghis Khan.Last edited by TolloAfghanSpinDai; 02-18-2013, 07:27 PM.

You seem to know a lot about Punjabis. Have you done some special study on Punjabis at Kabul University?Originally posted by Aryan Sakazai View Postseaching for females is hard enough, due to the fact that information about women is private and not written down. Saw this documentary long time ago where Steve McCurry who photo graphed Sharbat Gula as a child in 1983 and won international awards and is among National Geographic's 100 Best Pics wanted to see what had become of her.... its a great watch....From the creator of www.pakhtun.com and its web forum Da Pukhtano Majlas the complete Pakhtun website!!!

Have you ever wondered about the laws of posting a photo of an individual and their rights. If sharbat gula had been in the west, she could have filed a substandial libel against mcurry for not taking permisiion to print photo, or she could have demanded compensation for using the photo. she would have had a manager, probably would have been invited to oprah's show.
may sound pedantic but you take a picture from the internet and use it for a campaign without permission (usually permission is granted upon payment), guaranteed the picture subject can slap a case for theft. My guess is all she got is loose change from mcurry and co compared to the revenue generated by national geo.
Compare this with the other incredible tragedy of this civilised world, the photo of phan thi kim phuc, then 8 years old, burnt and running naked because napalm had been dropped on her and other people. The photogrpapher got the pulitzer prize, she got used as a propaganda icon by her country, and now she is a canadian citizen, living in ontario far from saigon.Last edited by torkham; 02-22-2013, 02:42 PM.

Sorry Torkhan rora! As a copyright and trademark lawyer, there is a thing called laws of Public Domain.... that is why celebrities don't get compensated for pictures taken in the public.
I can go through a detailed explanation but you always play the "the world is taking advantage of poor Pakhtuns" and "we pakhtuns are victims" card and to me its just a waste of time.....From the creator of www.pakhtun.com and its web forum Da Pukhtano Majlas the complete Pakhtun website!!!

People who defend such laws are criminals. Yeah its a waste of time our people suffer.Originally posted by laevanay View PostSorry Torkhan rora! You can say that in safety of where you are, but take a photo of a member of public in OUR culture and see how people react. Now in perspective, a photo of an afghan girl, printed all over, question is what is so intriguing about her eyes?
And not just pashtun, the vietnamese girl, in war, skin falling off because of napalm, . . . . put aside about photo-journalism for a moment. She is sitting in canada. Sharbat gulla, do you care where she is? Lawyer huh?

yeah because having attractive eyes is a very similar experience as to being set on fire..
Having attractive eyes had become a distraction from having attractive eyes and being in a tragic situation. The whole issue had become 'oh look how pretty she is' and then after a few minutes, dawning upon these observers, 'oh pretty girl is in a tragic war situation'. Thank god pretty girl saved the day by making us realise her tragedy! Girls with unattractive eyes are not worthy or capable.
It's irony, tragedy, ignorance and hypocrisy wrapped in one.Last edited by torkham; 02-22-2013, 03:17 PM.
