lets not forget that in 2002 we took the first prize amongst 67 countries which included japan, china, pakistan, india, china and european countries.

after that we were mostly in 4th to 10 position

This year inshallah i am planning to get some carpet makers from Afghanistan to make carpet in front of ppl, also i want to make a place for green tea where free green tea will be served to people. we get over 2 million of visitors annually and many of them come to our village. they love our culture and tradition.
I have lack of support from my afghans over there, i have to pay over $ 250,000 to make this place and i hardly ever get that back without making any profit from the shops i make inside pavilion or village. Our Afghans should help me to make this place come 1st and we take the 1st prize again

Well, being that KFC and other major US based corporations sponser this event (It isn´t a fair like I assumed, it´s a giant shopping center i.e. mall) and that the vast majority of countries that ¨participate¨ and ¨represent¨ themselves are muslim countries (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Village_(Dubai)#Pavilions_participating_in_ the_2008-2009_season__ http://www.globalvillage.ae/Attractions/Pavillions.aspx)
I´d have to say it´s not because of that, it´s because we have our own giant shopping malls XD (one of the major advertisers is gowealthy.com)

It seems to be a giant commerical center marketing towards the locals mistrust of globalization, when in fact it is globalization. Just another case of marketing convincing people that ¨the man¨ isn´t ¨the man¨ when selling you a cool product.

I´m for a global integrated society and certainly against globalization, but this is not exactly the best expression of being for and against those things.

It says the countries represented are not European, just islamic and other third world countries. As in the main pavillion attractions. More on the other shows below.

¨Culture¨ is one of the most subjective and misunderstood concepts in history. Also, emphasis on culture is largely misguided and ridiculous. A culture can oftentimes be just an excuse to oppress and hold back people, or well to get into someones bed :P

I could care less about the usless baggage that goes with the concept of culture these days. Nor can I find myself ever caring about age old rituals, beliefs and ideas. If the USA were to indeed not have a ¨culture¨ as defined usually, I would say all the better.

But the above is all mute anyway, because if you guys actually read the website, you´d have found this:

                      http://www.globalvillage.ae/Attractions/ShowsEvents.aspx

¨Global Village’s new look and feel entertainment offering aims to present not just dance and music from around the world, but cultural experiences that allow visitors to take away an element of culture that they can experience and experiment with. Look out for opportunities to participate and join in with our artists from around the world, get your kids involved in learning folk songs and dance steps, and take home with you the sights, sounds and tastes of a wonderful variety of cultures!

Shows featuring the cultures of the US, France, Bulgaria, Hawaii, Philipines, South Asia, Brazil and so many more countries will be on display at the brand new World Culture Stage. The streets will come to life with African acrobats, Palestinian Dabka dancers, Keralite Drumming bands and even Rope Skippers!¨

I have to say this to people from all over, read and think before you speak, or in this case, type.

Ya but America does not have it's own culture and customs.
Again, extremely subjective. Does America have on a whole it´s own ¨culture¨ and ¨customs¨? Well, actually it does, but even if not, all the various regions have their own cultures and traditiions. Is it true they´re on their way out like in Europe? Yep, and all the better. I could care less about what people call ¨culture¨ these days. Who needs that false sense of approval and belonging?

WHAT are you going to do bring American Pashtuns/Afghans and say they are yours now?
Um, I´m not going to do anything like that, as far as I know, Afghanistan isn´t in the US or trying to integrate into the United States.

Also, wasn´t the crux of this argument that the US wasn´t represented at this glorified shopping center, so thus it lacks a culture? Since it was represented, isn´t that idea mute?

Because it doesn´t, but I´d be happy too. If you haven´t heard of American traditions, then you´ve never heard of baseball, among about a billion other examples. Plus the states have their own cultures, why up in Oregon its cultural to hunt bears, why in California its cultural to be a conservationist. In Texas its cultural to be...a football fan, while in Mass. its cultural to be a literate know-it-all. See what I mean? Texas is the best example, as it´s the only state with its own identity.

                          Lol, culture is overrated XD.

USA is now developing its culture.

You cant compare USA to Afghanistan.

Afghanistan is far more cultural richer since its 2-5 thousand years old.

What does culturally rich mean exactly? Afghanistan certainly isn´t what many would call a rich country, given its quality of life in pretty much all fields. What I´m trying to ask is, how do you define culturally rich and what value does it have anyway?

Again, its all subjective and Im sure plenty would call the US ¨culturally rich¨ however I do not see the positives, or negatives, for that matter, of it. I don´t see why it matters period.
