I think really You should try once to visit the region - simply plan a trip in advance, so that yo come in summer(in winter the Russian-Georgian border is sometimes closed due to snow.)
However You are right - Russian is usefull, as really not many people know English and even less know Arabic.
Perhaps one day I will be able to help you with such a trip, but in the moment I have a bit complicated times so I cannot promis it to You unfortunately
About visiting Abkhazia I hve no information - but the rest of Caucasus is surely easy to visit, even if the territory of Chechnya is a bit controlled py local police due to political reasons, however that wouldn't concern You in no way.
