I think that sort of is it but its also a very fine line. For instance, your father will tell you that in medicine research, stem cell therapies are a very hotly debated topic. Some will swear, for funding purposes, that they are the tool of many future cures that will make today's cures look primitive... others, who are upset about the amount of funding going that way will call it a useless pursuit. The goal as a scientist or a student of these matters, and historical matters is to be as objective as possible (which hard for most of us) and see where the evidence leads us.
