Yes, realism is the most practical line of thinking. Anything other than that has no benefit to anyone and just preoccupies our minds, worrying us needlesly. But as I say, it should not be to the extent that one becomes heartless. We should have emotions but they should not be inflated and (like I said in that post) should be kept well in proportion to reality.
