  • MDresden - I've caught a flavour of your politics here. I'm not totally politically ambivalent myself, but I remain generally sceptical. Consider it the sum total of having being exposed to a raft of promises that don't deliver. I also know that Aid is often very conditional.

A good friend of mine is an Anglo-American living in Kabul. He benefits from the US presence and is essentially anti-Taliban because they represent a view that he doesn't see eye-to-eye with.

On the flip side of the coin, I know that Pashtoons in the south are pretty much vilified by the local armies - Afghan, American, Pakistani and since the 19th century we've been considered barbaric to the point that fears of who we are appear to self-fulfil.

I reject that particular imperialist view and refuse to be defined by outsiders. For one, I am committed to the Bacha Khan view of our people and what we could be. You should read him sometime.
