the islet of langerhaans beta cells of the pancrease release insulin when blood glucose levels are high. this insulin helps in the removal and subsequent conversion of glucose to glycogen in the liver
when glucose levels are low, the glucagon is released from the pancreas (check if it is the delta cells), the glucagon helps break glycogen in the liver to glucose. this glucose is released into the bloodstream. this would happen when you are say starving or running
