I'm not proposing that there shouldn't be any punishment at all for crimes such as rape, murder, theft, etc. My emphasis is still on instilling values that make an individual detest these crimes not because of the punishment that they carry but because of what they actually represent.

I do draw the line, however, when it comes to the Blasphemy Law, the Hudood Ordinance and other such reactionary laws. Speaking one's mind should not result in him/her going to jail or being sent to the gallows.
