  • Attention all members! Please answer questions!

as salaamu aleikoum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

I have engaged pretty much every active poster in debates. And something that really ruins it for me, is when I pose questions and the counter party refuses to reply to my questions. Instead, I get all sorts of nonsensical comments.

It happens in politics, in religion and else where.

And there are a large number of culprits who are guilty of this deliberate evasive tactic.

As a result, because people refuse to answer question, I have to pose the same question over and over again to get an answer. Or even worse, hundreds of threads have been ruined because people do not dare to play ball.

It's difficult to force responses out of people.

I'm not sure how we can help you.

I have a baseball bat if you want.

If you have good evidence you will win the argument under any hostile conditions.

If you don't, then you won't.

Yeah wait to tell you see people quoting twitter as their source..plus it all depends how far your willing to tolerate the argument, some people can argue till the world's end and some like me like to save whatever brain cells they can still salvage and be on their way

I didn't get enough sleep last night which made me hypersensitive this morning........then a bit "on edge'....but now this is the second time this evening that someone posted something to make me laugh....the other thing was send to my email...but I wasn't sure if it would fit in here......

                thank you for the laugh!

That's it, Fahd! They realize maybe their arguments are not profound enough to counter what was presented. They mutter and scowl but after that, slink quietly away, to come back to fight another day!

Now once in awhile, people CAN be checking facts.

In some cases it may take a long while.

For example, wikipedia is NOT the word of God. It's just a tool from which to begin gathering information on a topic.

So someone may need to go back to very original sources which may be in Russian, for example. It's going to take quite some time to sift through that material to discern whether or not some claims are true.

We can give SOME benefit of the doubt that 'contestants' may be researching over some time.

However, many too, would rather depart that thread without a grudging acknowledgment that indeed strong challenges to one's existing ideas were raised during a debate. If any discussion actually took place.

This is something everyone can probably improve on: admitting either mistake or that he or she has been bested on a particular point of that argument. Or the entire argument!

To be fair Shimlah, you are not totally innocent. Let me explain what I mean.

Yes, you do respond, but with copied and pasted articles of those who hold the same views as you. You are not responding in an intelligent coherent manner.

You post an article that you did not do the research for and you expect the other party to refute your article systematically refuting every one of the points. This takes time. Then you in-turn, when the other party did refute your post, post another copied and pasted article to which you expect another systematic refutation. This drains a person.

If you really want to have a solid debate then step up to the plate with the intention of entertaining the ideas of the person who you oppose and if his or her ideas are correct then you should accept them and not simply argue for its sake, because you fear "losing" the war. A couple of battles won't break or make a war.

I read your posts, a lot. But you need to tone it down with the copied and pasted articles. The same goes for Mujib or Haneef, the two whom you are always engaged with like cats and dogs.

Moral of the story, try to reason with the person with your own reasoning and understanding of religion, don't copy and paste articles. I don't engage in Islam debates where the Quran is involved because I know that none of you will accept my opinions, which is unfortunate. But let me tell you that I have the stamina, but I am afraid of this response, again: What do you know, you are not even a Muslim? A response I received from Dreamer, for simply trying to correct a logical flaw. And, then he told me that I am bashing Islam.

So, try your best to stay concise and summarize the articles you want to post in your own words, so that the response would reflect your words, not someone else's.

Not only does he only copy and paste articles and/or give links to videos in hopes to answer people's questions, he almost always tells you that your question is just stupid, pointless, etc. if you have different beliefs than his! There are many, many threads with such responses from him. AND, almost always, when others do answer the questions he asks, he basically tells them that since they're not "real" Muslims, their opinion or answer doesn't count! Or then he'll ask them for evidence, and when the person provides evidence, he'll say, "That doesn't' count becuase it's from SOURCE X, which isn't Islamic." :S What? And what makes you think YOUR sources are any more Islamic or more authentic than any other ones?

Sorry, but you need to apply your rules and suggestions to your own self as well. Otherwise, don't complain about the things that others do which you do your OWN self on a daily basis. Hypocrisy is hypocrisy no matter who practices it.

What is the matter with Muslims and this line^?

I am pretty sure that Shimlah had to think in order to accept this ideology; ironically he won't allow someone else to think it out.
