When I was in primary school, we had a Birthday Assembly. It was like a paupers birthday which consisted of a collection of old discarded cards with photographs of golf clubs and tinsel and baubles on that children pulled out of a box on their birthday after the written-on greetings side of the card had been cut off.

My Pashtun parents who don't know their own exact dates of birth thought that dates of birth/age were arbitrary and didn't pour any energy into the celebrations of birthdays so the only acknowledgement I got was half an old card with a photocopied message glued to the back from the school secretary.

I suppose this is all rather in keeping with contemporary trends because nowadays age is irrelevant and recycling is all the vogue.

if you are an atheist, with a one dimentional view of what reality is all about, then you don't believe in a higher purpose.
i believe the purpose of everything has a positive reason for occurring, even the most negative events.
a learning and creating reason, to take humanity to more constructive creations and an evolution in consciouness, in the future.
you might consider that a copout or being in denial, but it is what i believe.
saying that, it does not stop me from also getting down and upset at times, about humanity and it's seeming insanity.
