Can any Admins comment on the possibility in the future for PF to have a mobile version viewable on smart phones?

    Salamuna Janana,
I will definitely look into this. I believe you are using an iPhone right? As of right now, to be honest, I'm working on bringing Pashto support to Android phones. That way, we can easily read Pashto text on this popular & rising platform. I apologize in advance, if it takes me a bit of a while to implement this. I view the Pashto problem as our major priority right now.

Thanks for your suggestion sis, we appreciate it.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

it works fine on an android too... but it would be so much easier on any phone if it had it's own app

You are able to read Pashto on your handset?

Reading Pashto on your android phone depends on your regional version of Android. I bought my phone in Dubai so it was already set up to read Arabic. When I used the official update for the firmware, it still recognised the O/S as an Arabic region phone. This allowed me to read Pashto, but only send SMSes in Farsi, Urdu or Arabic. When I updated to Gingerbread, it reflashed the region and I lost Arabic compatibility and that rendered BBC Pashto unreadable and very importantly, a good number of posts here.

It actually makes me 'angry' that I can read (if I could) Chinese or Russian on my phone, but not a script based on Arabic - as if software developers should even think of ignoring a major language on which so many scripts are based. Hats off to Microsoft in this regards because newer versions of Windows have been Pashto friendly and after bricking my phone to try and get it to work with Pashto I've decided that I am not buying another phone unless I am guaranteed to be able to read Pashto on it without having to mess around with routing it with dodgy ROMs.

Have you tried an iPhone? In fact, one of our members had even developed a Pashto app for it(to type in Pashto).

I've got an iPad2 with the Pashto app. It's a valuable resource but it sits separately from the email app. You have to copy/paste and it doesn't always work. I actually find it hard enough to keyboard in Pashto for long periods as it is, so the whole touch screen version with the need to copy and paste is even fiddlier. Especially as the text doesn't right justify like it should.

Like I say, I'm protesting when it comes to phones cause I can't see why Arabic integration (at least) is not possible. Pashto in comparison is a smaller language, but usually programmers can/or at least should integrate character recognition for all the regional unicode types. It's hardly a major demand when it comes to today's technology and the power behind some of these phones.
