  • PF Policy: Advertising and Terrorism

One of the main rules pertaining to this forum that is often overlooked is that of advertising and promotions. This is not only limited to personal interest or businesses - rather, recently, the administration of PF was presented with an offer that involved a request of agreement to give a small amount of space on the website to advertise a banner while promising payment for using the advertising space and any referrals made as a result.

As Muslims and Pashtuns, we take pride in our unique values of loyalty to our people and land, of honour and of zeal, and considering such an approach would have led to the fall of our ultimate aim and goal as a forum and people; to help our nations prosper through the power of peace and brotherhood amongst our people. This is a reminder that PF not a recruitment medium for such advertising and nor do we endorse it.

There are genuine questions asked about the intent of the world's biggest military campaigns that are taking place in our shared homelands right now and invariably, these questions apply to the ultimate intent of the adverts.

It should also be noted that in raising questions about the military campaigns, the counter argument of support for terrorism does not apply and is strongly refuted.

I take this opportunity to clarify the fact that such crimes are prohibited on religious terms, and are also grave sins against humanity. Islamophobes will often compare the rapid development and economic superiority of the western world with the Islamic one and then draw faulty conclusions based on that.

Support for terrorism, is neither justified nor tolerated within the boundaries of Islam and on this forum. Members here are requested to refrain from promoting such topics in the light of religion and culture.

Terrorism is prohbited in Islam. And I strongly condemn terrorists such as the USA, NATO, UN and their stooges and lapdogs.

I hope nothing I said has made you think this is what I advocate. Usually when I have discussed things, its been in the context of an academic mindset of why things are the way they are. I did start a thread called "Osama Bin Ladin" under literature but that was to address a recently released text by Michael Scheuer.

Not in the slightest. This announcement was composed a good few months ago, however, what recently brought me to post it was a series of advertisements (which were quickly removed) and spam bots making their presence on the forum. Your contributions are more than welcome and, if, which I doubt, anything of the likes was to come from you, before a policy is devised to counter it, you will be notified. Rest assured, post as you wish.

          Assalam-Alaikum.

I noticed *Mahzala* has already responded but I just figured I should also tell you that this announcement has absolutely nothing to do with anything you have said my brother.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

Regarding advertising I saw an advert the other day telling me "you can be a great Zionist too, just like Michael somethingorother" and then there are all those dating websites demanding me to "meet sexy singles now" lol

I am not too bothered about this but would prefer not to be asked to celebrate the achievements of the founder of Zionism next time I want to post some images of mosques :p.

Advertisers have sussed out clever ways of targeting their desired audiences and the adverts that I see may not be the same that you see in the UK. I know this because I've used PF in more than one location.

A lot of the times key words trigger the kinds of adverts that you get. For example if a thread is about marriage, you might find yourself with a matrimonial type advert and if the thread is about Pashto language, then you might find links to language schools. A discussion on military in a thread may generate adverts at the top that could be similar.

It's not a hard and fast rule, mind, and sometimes your cache or internet habits can be the trigger.

The stupid dating adverts can sometimes come about when Members create threads with key words that draw that kind of advertising. There's a lesson there for everyone about complete reckless posting and how it harms our community experience.

Thank you for the information tor khan.

I have attached the banner I was referring to (saw it again). It appeared in a religion thread so I guess it follows on from what you said.
