It's a little fun place to hang out at. It does prepare you, but remember everyone and their mama's are going to be apply as bio majors. Have something else that distinguish's you from the rest of the applicants. Had on another major, something that comes really easy for you. I have way to many people in my life talking about the MCATs.

Yeah I've looked at a few down there. Insha'Allah I'll see how things go once I start getting acceptance letters.
LOL wow....then we live really close by then ha ha i dont think Omar minds, i mean you are new too.....stalkers here? no not really. But this site is public and you may never know with the situation with the net. So yeah. Thats its preferred not to put your exact location, name, pictures, etc.

I love the fountains. I used to go so many times with my friends after shopping at Galleria. Now its busy, busy with college, even on the weekends lol.

i know a girl that goes to a law school in SF...and she loves it. ha ha yeah my major is plain old bio, but i have an emphasis on embryology....and i wont start that until after i transfer. So hopefully that kinda makes me stand out. If not, i will go to PA school :D lol

      Welcome aboard.

Da Kandahar da kam zai ye?
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

Thank you Jasmine! I was just being sarcastic about the stalkers! =)

              good relevant discussions here!!!
Thanks! Do you mean if their political liberal? Or just liberal overall? In regards to Muslims, you have your liberals one and conservative ones no matter where you are. I don't think the California ones are any different. Masha'Allah we have big Islamic communities all throughout California and we do have a lot of people really involved in those communities. With Pashtuns, I've noticed that their culturally conservative, yet Islamically liberal. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but that's the deal with Pashtuns in California. They enforce culture on their children, yet when it comes to Islam, the kids have no idea what's going on. Honestly, I'd rather be one lost Pashtun, not know a single word of Pashto than to give up a part of my religion, or not know what my religion is. When it comes down to it- I'm a Muslim before I'm a Pashtuna. Hope this kind of answers your question. =)

New York is so much better than Cali.

New York, especially NYC has soo much to offer and there's always something to do, but frankly, I'd rather save a few $$ and not live there. I'd love to visit time and time again, but home is where the West Coast is. =)

Thats good to know that Pashtuns have kept to their cultural traditions their. I know that Persians have lost most of their culture there, and was curious if the same has happened to Pashtuns.

                  Welcome to PF again!
Yeah...there are many areas that remind us of Afghanistan. Like Placerville kinda looks like Salang. My city looks like Laghman. Its because we have open land which Pashtuns can relate too. The Sierra's look like Swat. I mean California is beautiful.

I'm sure it does to other Pashtuns. To me, unless I'm surrounded my mountains, it doesn't remind me of Afghanistan. =) But I have heard its because of the weather and the parks.

I've heard that there are literally thousands of Kandarharian. Especially in Queens. That's kind of cool though. I finished up school last year. I'm now applying for law school for next year Insha'Allah.

What about in California? Have they all turned Disco Kandahari?
Masha'Allah that's really good. I'm soo annoyed at people in their mid 20's not wanting more education. Afghans here are trapped in the theory that "lets make money the fastest way possible" and have given up on education. But the younger crowds the less the 22 year olds are realizing they need to be in school which is pretty awesome. California has closet "disco Kandaharians". They preach and go to school during the day, and at night their other sides come out. =(

They might be, I'm from Northern California- so if she lives up North I might know her. Zama Pashto sama dama da. I hate the whole Pashto-English spelling. That throws me off so sadly. So I avoid typing in Pashto-English altogether. My grandparents are from Kandahar, Kandahar. I was born in Kabul.

We have Afghan basketball tournaments here as well!

I knew a man once from Karaj in Iran, who had also spent much time on the Caspian Sea, and he said Northern California close to the Oregon border (they often call Middle California the Northern part incorrectly-though Northern is further North than the San Francisco Bay area) reminded him of the Caspian Sea region, that it even smelled right, and I have heard that the same area reminded a Pakistani of Swat Valley.

Yes i have drove there before...its beautiful its so green there. Swat Vally looks like Eastern California. Northern California includes Bay Area (San Francisco) the state Capital, and the mountain, valley regions up north of that.
