  • Assalaamualaikum

    Assalaamualaikum,

This looks like a geat forum - I can't wait to look around more and benefit from you all, inshaAllah.

I'm not Afghan but I married into an Afghan family so I'm always looking for good resources (especially cooking)!

There are plenty of us who are not technically Afghans, but have some tie into their culture and life!

    So please feel at home.

Don't hesitate for a minute to ask what may be dumb questions. People here graciously reply to even the most simple questions I have posed in the past

It's a very nice feature of Pashtuns, Afghans.

My last forum one would ask something and no one would answer, leaving me feeling like no one cared or heard. The post would sit there for days and sometimes weeks stranded, while everyone passed it by ....!

How did you meet your spouse? In America or the West or Pashtunkhwa? I'm sure everyone would be interested to hear. If you are in the mood to tell now that's fine. If you want to wait and get to know the people here a little, that's understandable.

Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

I'm arab (well...my father is from Iraq and my mother is an American revert). Born overseas but spent most of my life in the US.

I met my husband at our masjid - we were both young but got married quickly and haven't looked back since, alhamdulillah. We have two kids and I am starting to homeschool the oldest one.

Feroza - Thank you so much for your offer of help! I've learned a lot from watching my mother in law and sister in law but they're so vague about spices especially so it helps a lot to see your step by step directions. I haven't had a lot of time to look through the entire cooking forum but I will slowly do that and you can be certain to have many questions from me!
