  • A word of oneness, a world of togetherness

    Salaam Everyone,

I am a new member here. I am so excited to be a part of this forum. My reason to be here is both personal and general.
I have had my fair share of pathan culture exposure but I would like to reach out to more people and get some questions answered and also get some help.

I have been reading a lot about pashtun community and culture. The more I read about it the more close I feel. I also think that just like any other culture/community, we as humans tend to play it safe.

Let me explain myself- when I say we play 'safe', I am talking in reference to marrying within our community, marrying someone with a stable job, same religion, decent family background etc. What we never consider is the 'compatibility' between the two. Don't get me wrong here, by no means I am saying that arranged marriages aren't successful. It's not about that. It's about how we are conditioned from the very beginning.

As much as my culture and my society wants me to play safe, I am urged to go out and expand. It's not about being a rebel. I see this life as my only chance to be alive. I don't think that khuda/rab intended us to be closed between walls.

The way I see cultures is almost similar to be having an important information. Consider all cultures around the world to be a goldmine of knowledge (good/bad, relevant/irrelevant) but important knowledge. What we all have forced ourselves into doing is building walls around us by making relationships in between these walls. We are too scared of the uncertainty and the outside goldmines.

I, as a human having an insatiable appetite for worldly knowledge would love to get involved in a different culture. Not because I don't like my culture or I like the other culture, it's because what I know from my culture will always stay with me. Maybe getting to know a different culture will give me a different perspective and understand myself from an altogether different perspective.

I am not a foreigner. I am as desi as I can get. I am no different. A lot of you might recognize with me. I am just a voice, seated deep within you somewhere. Asking you to communicate with me on this.

    Replies are much awaited!
