By the way, I'm of Moroccan descent too.

Actually, I'm the only member of Moroccan descent here.

So people probably expect me to be your "guide".

Do people actually spend years "studying" how people are dressed ?

What is the point ? What is the project ?

    Anyways, Welcome sister.

Hello fellow Moroccan sister, it's lovely to meet you! What brings you to these forums?? Feel free to be my guide...I have a feeling I'm going to need one

To answer your questions surprisingly there are many, many people who do actually spend years of their life studying the importance of clothing, identity, consumerism and the meaning behind it all. I have written a couple of general outlines on what my project is about on the previous page, have a read and if you are interested in participating I'd be very interested in hearing your perspective and perhaps finding out if your experience as a Moroccan woman differs from the experience of being a Pashun women? :D

Pashtun women are the most beautiful women in the world, as well as parts of races that neighbour pashtuns such as Nuristanis, Shina, some Baloch and Punjabi people etc.

I am a proud Pashtun. I love my language, culture and whatever related to Pashtuns but for reformation of the pitfalls we have we should have an open discussion. We ourselves and with the help of others we can diagnose our issues and can resolve them with the spirit of amelioration, betterment and progress. If we keep our problems secret then the society will be further deteriorated. In today's globalized world nothing can be kept concealed. The imbroglio of 35 million Pashtun women is a real issue and should be touched every where.

About the posotive aspects of Pashtuns I had started a thread with the following first post

We are all human beings but all human beings are not the same as all races, nations, people, ethnic groups, individuals have some distinctive characteristics thats why we are Pashtuns, Germans and Arabs etc. All with their culture, values, anthropology, genetics, color, stature , religions, countries, geographies, traditions etc etc.

This I am talikng in positive sense not in the sense of racial discrimination or apartheid. We pashtuns are proud to be Pashtuns but we are not proud to be Germans or Arabs. Why because we are distinct , we are different,,good or bad. We as a people or race or ethnic group have our own distinguishing features. The negative must be removed, the positive must be improved.

Here I would like to have a comprehensive discussion on the positive aspects of Pashtuns being a nation, a race, ethnic group, a peoplewith Pashto language and Pashtuns code of life or Pashtunwali

Following are some of the points of which I being a Pashtun am proud of

                1. All Pashtuns belong to a big extended Pashtun family and in most of the cases when speak Pashto feel like cousens and members of one family. For me 70 millions Pashtuns whether they live in Pakistan or Afghanistan, or any country of the world are cousens.

One day I asked in a conefrence in a European country that what can be the size of a family , some one told 10, some 100 , I said no. its 70 million . approximately the 70 millions Pashtuns are like one family and this you feel when you meet a Pashtun in a foreign country. Just his or her langauge or being Pashtun is enough identity for us and we receive him or her as our family member

                2. Pashtuns generally are not suffering from inferiority complex, they `proudly present themselves as Pashtuns

                3. In about 95% cases Pashtuns speak and are proud of their langauge Pashto. Few exceptional cases are Pashtuns specially muhammadzai in Kabul or Northern Afgahnsiatn who prefer speak Dari or few Pashtun tribes as in Hazara, Mian wali, Attock Paksitan forgot Pashto because of the linguistic and cultrual invasion of the neighbouring people.

Here i am talking of speaking and listening. Pashtuns are very bad when we talk of writing and reading Pashto. They seldom write and read Pashto. Its an important negative aspect of Pashtuns that they dont read or write their language.

                4. Almost all Pashtuns have maintained their blood line and geneology. Its almost a pure race. The Pashtuns are the world's largest (patriarchal) segmentary lineage ethnic group

                5. Pashtuns are generally brave, confident, hard working people living with values, traditions, mores, and honour. Although bravery of Pashtuns is proverbial but this bravery must be practiced with intelligence, tact, and farsightedness otherwise the same bravery can become belligerence , stubborness, contentiousness, hostility, militance, , pugnaciousness and truculence which dont remain any more a positive characteristic of a person, group or nation.

                6. Pashtuns hospitality is proverbial. they are very friendly people But this may not become excessive and may not let ourselves to be used by others and the hospitañity of Taliban may not reach to the extent that their guest Osama become their cause of destruction an dthe camel oust the owner of the camp.

so basically there is a lot of bs facts in this thread, pick and choose as you will and be wary of men pm'ing you with "a/s/l" aol style.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

                      Welcome.
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

Tamara, be careful of what you read here at PF, many people have fake identitys here to pose as Pashtuns and twist information, these people take extreme cases (like theres extremism in every culture) and portray them to be more than what they are. Recently articles on Wikipedia to do with pashtuns have been manipulated with loads of fabricated and twisted facts, also on YouTube the other ethnic afghans,Indians etc post so many fake videos there seems to be an online war for some reason. Badlun & co will portray a gloomy image of Pashtuns, how they are pre historic savages on any possible subject so expect a biased opinion.

I agree that there is not as much freedom for women in Pashtun areas, and I don't agree with women not being able to work and be as independent as they want or if their family think is alright, but when talking about we have to understand if its freedom in the sense of a western perspective of the word and how they EXPECT women to have freedom in the west.. Pashtunwali doesn't agree with a western outlook on how females role should be in society that is correct, i think we have to take into mind how modernisation is encorporated into pashtun society because modernisation is always the biggest change a tribal race like Pashtuns can come across, most pashtuns are rural poor people..but all this boils down to a critical question: who's right? Who is to say what is the correct culture or not. If someone doesn't feel oppressed and are perfectly happy with the way they are and dress then who has the right to say "no, you are oppressed".

Guys I am really grateful for the responses I have been getting but I would like to sort of remind everyone that I am not specifically focusing on the treatment of women within the Pashtun community, while I understand that this could be relevant for some women when deciding whether to wear certain garments, I don't wish to agree or disagree here about the truth behind their miss-treatment etc. If anyone wishes to talk to me about their perspectives on these events or your personal experiences then I would be more than happy to listen but I think it's important we tread neutral ground here and steer away from topics that some are finding offensive.

Your research is too specific and too precise, I am sorry to say but you probably won't find anything relevant for your project on this forum.

Try searching books in a big library or keep searching online.
