  • Greetings.

Hello everyone. My name is Matt. I'm an American from a town in Indiana in the Ohio Valley. Like others have stated in their introductory threads - I am interested in Pashtun culture and the history/politics of Af-Pak region.

I have been lurking for about a week and enjoyed reading some of the interesting threads and nice pictures. I hope to learn from you all, contribute to the discussions, and provide perspective on any issues... If anyone has questions, please feel free to ask.
I look forward to interacting with you.

Hey Matt, welcome aboard. Glad to have you here.
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

Thanks for the welcome. I was just always interested in Afghan history as well as studying the various tribes and demographics that make up the region. Generally speaking, I am interested in learning more about Pashtun family structure and hope to gain insight on other prominent social issues in addition to the ongoing conflict.

some more info: I'm a student; a social sciences major at a University in Indiana. I am opposed to the NATO occupation, and strongly detest the drone program which is immoral and illegal.
