Since this old thread has been revived, I did a quick google search on Dr Daud Miraki and realised that I had read his articles in the past.
Dr Miraki is a staunch opponent of the U.S/NATO war in Afghanistan , and something I found very interesting is that he has conducted his research and claims that the actual US and NATO casualties in Afghanistan are far higher than the official numbers.

It's highly likely. The Taliban have constantly said that the US was downplaying the number of foreign soldiers in Afghanistan, the extent of their engagement, and the number killed. We now know that they were telling the truth regarding the number deployed, I think it's a matter of time before we find out the true casualty figures.Originally posted by toughpashtun View PostSince this old thread has been revived, I did a quick google search on Dr Daud Miraki and realised that I had read his articles in the past.

I've heard constantly from Afghans living there that the number of dead is way higher than the US claims. People in this country, especially those involved with the military, trust their government way too much. Now that journalists are desperate to uncover every bad thing about Trump's presidency, hopefully someone will do some fact checking in the official death tolls.

Yes it is probable.Time will tell whether the real numbers are released or not.Originally posted by maneatinglizard View PostIt's highly likely. It is claimed that even the Soviet casualties in Afghanistan were much higher than the 13,000 official dead.

I wouldn't be surprised. From the descriptions of people that were around in that era, there were a lot more dead than the official claims. Especially since the Soviets actually fought, unlike the Americans, who have mostly hid behind their Afghan meat shields and relied on airstrikes from safe up in the air.Originally posted by toughpashtun View PostYes it is probable.Time will tell whether the real numbers are released or not.

In both cases though, the majority of casualties, unfortunately, were Afghans dumb or desperate enough to fight for their foreign invaders.
