    New Member: Dukhtar-e-Kabul

    Salam.

    I am an Afghan from Kabul, I am not Pashtun(I hope that is not a problem)but I have married a Pashtun. So I did not really want to introduce myself, but I am now in the Pashto section going over all the threads and trying to learn. I might need some help from time to time. So I decided to register, I must say I am very glad to finally see a place full of educated people.

        There are many threads which will assist you to pick up the basics of the language. Some include audio clips too, to get the pronunciation right. These lessons are compiled by very own members after requests from people like yourself. It is great to see you are willing to learn. Please do not hesitate to ask for anything. No question is ever not worthy of being asked. Everyone can benefit on your part too.

Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!
