Greetings, all! I discovered this forum while on the hook to do a class project on Afghan culture. My teacher (himself an Afghan) had suggested looking into local superstitions. And while I did not get a huge response to my first inquiry (which was on an old thread, untouched in months), I found here other interesting topics. It's always fascinating to see the world through someone else's eyes and gain a broader perspective.
    Cheers.

          Welcome Zirey.
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

            Welcome...

Out of curiousity why did you chose this forum, rather than one which has the word "Afghan"?

I ask, not because I disagree (this is probably the best forum to come to and better than the other ones out there), but out of interest in google rankings etc.

Bengal Tiger, a very good question. In fact, I tried Afghan Forums first but could not figure out how to get the invitation code required to register. After a few unsuccessful attempts, I discovered Pashto Forums, where registering was more straightforward. I also agree this forum seems more applicable.

DaZahroJaam, "Zirey" was the Pashto name I chose for class purposes. It means "good news."
